Hello, I'm new to ArcGIS Pro. After importing some layouts and maps from mxds, I noticed I have multiple XY providers showing under locators. Is that normal? when I hover over them or click them they dont seem to do anything. Also whenever I switch between different maps in the project more get added and I dont understand why or what they are for. If someone could explain that'd be great

Hello, I work with a habitats polygon layer that includes about 100 habitat types. Most of the maps I produce with it will only have 5-10 of these habitats in the mapping area. However when I make the legend all 100 are included. At present I am manually making the legend for each map, which of course is time consuming. Is there a way to include only the habitats that are included in the map in the key, and not all those within the shapefile/feature class? Thanks!

I think Ive got it. The 'a list of values' does it, I just hadn't specified different locations for the outputs (and it defaults to the same file).

Hello, I am trying to set up a model in ModelBuilder that will have a variable number of inputs. For example, I have some sites that in some cases I will want to search for its overlap with another shapefile. Another time I may want to search for its overlap with 2 or more shapefiles. I have it set up using 1 shapefile. However I am stuck as to how to go about setting up the option to input more than 1 shapefile. Using 'a list of values' doesnt seem to do the job as I want the outputs to be individual - i.e. how much does it overlap shapefile a and how much does it overlap shapefile b, not how much does it overlap shapefiles a and b. Thanks, Michael

Thanks for the replies. Specifically my model was selecting features with certain attributes (select by attribute tool), then making these selections into new features (copy features tool), then calculating the area of the new feature (calculate geometry/area tool). The outputs from the calculate geometry/area tool are then used as inputs into the merge tool. However, for areas where there have been no features selected the calculate geometry/area tool does not produce any output. So when the merge then tries to run it can't. I have adjusted the model now so that the calculate areas occurs after the merge and it runs fine now. But I'd still be interested to hear if there is a way to get the merge to run as I originally intended. Thanks, Michael

Hi Dan, The problem when I try to do that is that because some of the shapefiles do not exist, the model stops. But I want it to carry on with the merge despite some of the shapefiles not existing. Perhaps I am using IF incorrectly?

Thanks Scott. You are correct, but I worded my question incorrectly. The issue is that the shapefiles aren't actually created, not that they are created empty. So I have six model output - 4 shapefiles and 2 nothings. Another time I run the model on a different area it may be any combination of shapefiles and nothings. However I always want it to merge anything that has been created. It gets stuck when I have inputs into the merge that don't exist.

Hello, I am trying to write a model in ModelBuilder. I have attempted to create six shapefile, however two of these contained no data. I am trying to get the model to merge the shapefiles. However because two have no data, it won't do the merge. But I still want it to run, merging the other 4 shapefiles that have data in them. Is there a way I can get this to run the merge? Thanks, Michael

Thanks Jim. That was actually one idea I had. It does indeed work, but as you mention it does generate a bit of distortion, so I thought there may be a better way. I think what I may need is the aggregate tool, but I don't have the license for that unfortunately. Thanks, Michael

Hello, I have a polygon shapefile of grassland habitat. At present there are just over 1000 polygons. However this is an over-representation. What I wish to do is to merge the polygons that are close together (within 1 metre of each other) so the register as just one polygon in the attribute table. Can anyone advise how I can achieve this? Thanks Michael
