Hi all, We were hoping to control the reading direction (RTL, LTR) of a dynamic legend in a Mxd from python. Is this possible through python code or only via the UI? I was looking at arcpy.mapping.LegendElement.updateItem but I can see no suitable parameter there for what I need. Thanks! Miri Revivo.

Hi there, We need an indication for completion of the map rendering process. There is the Map::Progress event, that according to the help page does just that, but in practice gets to 100% before the map has finished drawing. A bug was open about the described behavior of the event (NIM093545), but it was recently recognized as "as designed", and in the comments it says that this event doesn't deal with drawing the map, but rather with the process of loading all the data needed for the map. So the question is - how can we listen to the map's finished drawing event? This is key for many of our customers' operations. I know that the new features are no longer developed for the WPF SDK, but existing customers whose systems are based on it, and don't plan to migrate to the new .Net SDK in the foreseeable future, really need this. Thanks, Miri.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply. No, it was not a service level setting, it was the image format I was using. I indeed had done this before, but it took me a while to remember what I did exactly.. So what solved the problem was setting the ImageFormat of the DynamicMapServiceLayer to PNG32, and that made the labels background transparent. <esri:ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer ID="USA Demographic" Url="path to layer" ImageFormat="PNG32"/> Miri.

Hi guys, I am sure that I've already seen this problem before, but I can't recall if I solved it, and more importantly - how 🙂 I have a DynamicMapServiceLayer in which one of the layers' labels are turned on. Everything looks fine when the color of the background is white, but when we change the color of the background, or when we add a basemap layer underneath it, the labels that exceed that shape they represent get this white halo, which makes them look very bad, practically unreadable. I've attached a screen shot of how it looks. Any ideas? Thanks, Miri.

Mike, A quick update - your code sample helped, and solved our client's problem. They were updating the feature's symbol too early in the event cycle, which made it seem that it has no impact. Now everything works fine. Thanks for your help! Miri.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the quick response! I missed it until now for some reason, it's a good think that Antti referred me to it 🙂 We're working with 10.2.2. I will check the difference between what you posted and what we are doing and let you know. Thanks! Miri.

Hi Antti, Thanks for your response. I don't think this limitation is documented, or at least I haven't found it. We have also tried doing that at the feature level (this is a feature layer). The symbology of the feature layer is taken from the map service of origin, and then we try using the RendererTakesPrecendence property to allow setting symbols manually for each feature, but this property is not honored in the Accelerated Display.. In this scenario, when we switch to the regular mode, the RendererTakesPrecendence property is honored and everything works as expected. This seems like a bug. What do you think? Thanks, Miri.

Hello, I'm trying to use the RendererTakesPrecedence property on a FeatureLayer in order to change the symbols applied to the features by the renderer applied to the layer in the map service it is loaded from. When in AcceleratedDisplay mode, this property is ignored, and the feature layer gets the renderer applied to it by the service (not the expected behavior). When using the regular WPF rendering engine - it is respected. I found this similar issue that was also present in the Silverlight API (but obviously with no relation to the AcceleratedDisplay): http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/99127-FeatureLayer-doesn-t-honor-RendererTakesPrecedence Is this a bug? Known limit in the Accelerated mode? Thanks, Miri.

Hello, We've written a simple class that implements the IRenderer interface in order to create a renderer with our own logic. The symbols the renderer returns are only symbols from within the API (mostly PictureMarkerSymbols). When we turn the AcceleratedDisplay mode on, this stops working. The question is why? We are not using any WPF-based symbology, and only working within the API. To my understanding this is supposed to work. What we are doing is, for instance, the very simple following thing: public class AdvancedSymbologyRenderer : IRenderer { public ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Symbols.Symbol GetSymbol(Graphic graphic) { var symbol = new PictureMarkerSymbol() { Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri(@"C:\Icons\plane.png")) }; return symbol; } } The error we are getting is the "classic" AcceleratedDisplay error, saying that the renderer cannot be serialized to JSON. This occurrs as an ArgumentException when our renderer is passed to this method - ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Runtime.NativeGraphicsLayer.UpdateRenderer(). Thanks, Miri.

Hi Mike, The full labeling engine that you mentioned for the .Net version - will it provide us with the functionality of binding the labels to Graphics' attributes? Will the position of the displayed labels be controllable through the API? I assume that it will contain a placement (and collision avoidance) mechanism? And most importantly - will this engine for graphics layers make it into the summer release? Thanks, Miri.

Hi Elise, I'm working for Esri's Israeli distributor, and we have a client that is interested in working with the ArcGIS Runtime upon JavaFX. I'd be happy to elaborate more via email. Mine is mirir@systematics.co.il Thanks, Miri.

Yes, that is true, but you can take the whole PictureMarkerSymbol object from the Renderer of the FeatureLayer that you have, so you don't have to create it yourself. Hope this helps, Miri.

Hi all, A customer of ours has been running a lengthy Tile Package creation from within ArcMap (File>Share As>Tile Package) and chose to create 18 levels of detail. After the process has been running for 5 days and completed 17 out of the 18 levels, there was a power outage and the process stopped before it completed. Is there any way to resume the process from the same point of the crash? So much time has been invested in the process.. I know that in ArcGIS Server this is possbile, but don't know any way to do it in Desktop. Your help would be highly appreciated 🙂 Thanks! Miri.
