Excellent! I will try this until there is a better alternative.

I think I have a general understanding of how HTML Popups work in ArcMap. ArcMap generates an XML document based on the layer/dataset fields selected in the Layer Properties-Fields tab. I am able to format the output of those fields in a popup using XSL templates on the Layer Properties-HTML Popup tab. My question is as follows: One of the fields in my layer is actually an XML field with multiple elements/attributes. This field type shows up as an “IUnknown” data type on the Fields tab. I would like to be able to parse through the elements of this XML field and format the output accordingly. Is anyone aware of any ArcMap XSLT examples that read an XML field and parse through the various elements? Thanks, Mike

There is no "official" support for 10.4 in 2500 (or 3400), but we have been running our 10.4 services with Explorer 2500 for a while. I'll add the caveat that my organization ported its 10.2.2 services to 10.4.1, so we are not doing anything in ArcGIS Server that specifically requires 10.4.

As a follow up to my question above - while it does not appear that there is "official" support for Server 10.4 with ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, we have had success running that configuration within our organization for some time now.

Some DISA mandated security controls require specific TLS protocols (1.1, 1.2) to be used for secure client to service communications. As far as I can tell, only ArcGIS for Server 10.4 allows administrators to disable both SSL and TLS 1.0 protocols. As a consequence, I am considering making the recommendation for my project to upgrade their version of ArcGIS Server to 10.4. I know that ArcGIS Explorer Desktop supports integration with ArcGIS for Server 10.3, but can someone tell me if Explorer also supports (or plans to support) Server 10.4 as well? Thank you

There may be a "cleaner" way in beta 4.0, but you could watch the MapView's rotation property and handle it there: var myRotateWatcher = myMapView.watch('rotation', function (evt) { myMapView.rotation = 0; // Ignore map rotation });

I seem to remember hearing that the next beta for the JavaScript API might be slated for "release" sometime in the Fall. Is there an idea when 4.0 Beta 2 will be available to the public? Thanks

Thanks, Kristian. This is definitely helpful. I thought the GestureManager might be the object to "replace" eventing. I even tried to implement GestureManager, but without examples or additional documentation to help me, I didn't have any success. It sounds like it is a work in progress anyway, so I will probably wait until a future beta to test its implementation.

I was able to take some time over the last few weeks to investigate the new 4.0 beta. While I realize that 4.0 is in the initial beta phase and has limited functionality, it is pretty obvious that the API has been substantially overhauled between 3.x and 4.0. Some changes are largely syntactical, but others - especially those changes relating to Map and Layers - require a rethinking of how a mapping application is constructed. Before my project starts to consider how to rearchitect its current application, I was hoping to get a good read on what constructs may be supported in future betas and the final release of 4.0. What follows are several "groupings" of API functionality that I have heavily leveraged in the 3.x versions of the API, but do not appear to be supported in 4.0 Beta 1. Map navigation methods (pan, zoom, center, etc.) - Are we to expect that the 3.x map navigation functions will be performed by equivalent 4.0 properties, such as MapView.zoom and .center? Keyboard methods (ex: enable/disablePan, enable/disableClickRecenter) - I have used these methods to limit user input in some circumstances. There appear to be no analogous methods to manage keyboard input in 4.0. Map events - Previous versions of the JS API were very event driven. In 4.0, it appears that this event-like functionaltiy is done by watching properties. Many of the 3.x events have similar properties in 4.0, and these can be used to perform the same function, but the ability to respond to mouse and keyboard actions seems very limited in 4.0. Events do exist in Beta 1, but they are very limited in number and scope. Are there plans to expand the number of events in future betas, or perhaps to add analogous properties to manage mouse/keyboard actions? Any insignt from the Esri developers out there would be greatly appreciated

Harry, I checked with the data team and the ArcGIS Explorer 1750 bing key will not expire until September. Mark, does this Bing key expiration date apply to ArcGIS Explorer Build 1700 as well? Thanks, Mike

Will ArcGIS Explorer be able to use Bing Maps through a key? Are there any details that can be shared about this?Thanks. Earlier in this thread, Mark mentioned that the final release will be "Bing ready", assuming you have the key from Microsoft: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/61091-ArcGIS-Explorer-2012-Beta-discussion?p=212205&viewfull=1#post212205 Mike

We've found that the integrated Intel graphics chips do a pretty crummy job of supporting OpenGL, which can make it a non-starter for ArcGIS Explorer. NVIDIA and ATI are much better. It is not just an ArcGIS Explorer issue, you would also notice it with other graphics-intensive applications that leverage OpenGL. Mike

I guess my question is: are there any plans to make the SDKs of ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight 3.0 or any future versions of the Viewer compatible with Silverlight 4? Mike http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&c2=12905 OK, so maybe ESRI support for SL4 in Viewer 3.0 was a bit of wishful thinking. I didn??t realize that Microsoft's support for SL4 was ending so soon.

Does the new Extensibility SDK require Silverlight 5? I see the latest ArcGIS API for Silverlight has assemblies for both Silverlight 4 and 5, but it looks like the Extensiblity SDK requires 5 since I can't get it to compile when I target Silverlight 4. I wanted to make sure, though. Thanks, Mike ESRI Support told us that you can run the application in a browser running Silverlight 4 and 5, but any development with the Extensibility SDK in ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight 3.0 requires the 5.0 Silverlight developer framework. Also, if the application is built using Silverlight 5, it can only run on a browser that supports Silverlight 5. I guess my question is: are there any plans to make the SDKs of ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight 3.0 or any future versions of the Viewer compatible with Silverlight 4? Mike
