Hi Mark, The ASCII file must consist of header information containing a set of keywords, followed by cell values in row-major order, in order to be read by ArcGIS. As per help documentation the file format for ASCII is as follows: <NCOLS xxx> <NROWS xxx> <XLLCENTER xxx | XLLCORNER xxx> <YLLCENTER xxx | YLLCORNER xxx> <CELLSIZE xxx> {NODATA_VALUE xxx} row 1 row 2 . row n Please check and see if your ASCII files have the header information stored as mentioned above. Thank you. Thanks for your sharing! I am wondering that how to import an ascii file without the header information? the file is stored as following: 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 the author of the dataset claims that it is exactly the file structure of an ascii file and allowed to import into arcgis.

Hi, Please try to convert your ASCII file to some other raster output format other than grid, may be an IMG or TIFF or a file geodatabase raster. Thanks, Gayathri A. Yes, I tried, but it failed with the same error message: 010067 : Error in executing grid expression. I think there are some problem with the fiel structure of ascii file, not the exporting file. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! I still could not open the ascii file via the arcgis conversion tool. do I need to modify the ascii file by adding the header information to the file? here is de demo of ascii file at the begining of the file: 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 0.000000E+00 the author of the data claims that it is exactly the right file structure " The *.asc you sent is the file structure. Get someone to help you on how to import ASCII into Arcgis. There are 360*180 (=64,800) lines in the file." So, how can I import that file to arcgis with the limited header information? Many thanks!

I am trying to import a ascii data to raster via the toll "ascii to raster", but a error is reported (ERROR 010067: Error in executing grid expression) during the conversion process. I open the ascii file by notepad, it seems that the header information is miss, but the data author claims that the file format is exactly correct. So I am wondering what is reason producing such error?
