That answers my question. Based on the image you attached it seems you have a parcel layer, is that correct? If so you can create an address locator that uses the parcel layer, or create a composite address locator that uses a parcel layer and street centerline layer to geocode against. Edit: Are all the addresses you need to geocode in San Diego County or just the one you happened to show? Matt

To address Joe's point, if you geocode against parcel data the point will be the center of the parcel. Gwen do you have parcel data or were you asking if that is made available by ESRI? Matt

Brittany, If there are multiple candidates with the same high score and the "Match if Candidates Tie" box is checked, then the status will show tied even though the locator matched to one of those tied candidates. If not checked, the status will show as unmatched. Are you using a community name, zip, state, and/or country or only the address like the one you identified above? If not then I would recommend it as adding additional criteria should narrow down the search. Matt

Kate, Do you still have the same problem? I would check the headers within those files to make sure they're correct. Otherwise copy them from a different user's machine where this problem doesn't exist. Matt

Dennis, Since you are geocoding against the ArcGIS online data you are not able to change what is returned as possible matches. If you were able to build your own address locator to geocode against, you could fix this. Matt

Sophie, The address locator engine yourlocator.lot.xml should contain the following which is supposed to make a space or hyphen interchangeable within the street name: <!--Street name is defined as word with an optional hyphen in between words--> <def name="name"> <alt ref="word"/> <alt> <elt ref="word"/> <elt ref="name"/> </alt> <alt> <elt ref="word"/>-<elt ref="name"/> </alt> </def> If this exists within the file I don't believe the hyphen is the problem. To confirm if it is, geocode a sample set of data with the hyphen removed from both the reference data and the addresses to geocode then check the scores. Matt

Hi all, I have a book "GISTUTORIAL1 Basic Workbook for ArcGIS 10" by W.L. Gorr & K. S. Kurland. I am working on Chapter 7 Geocoding and I am doing Tutorial 7-4 Correct street reference layer addresses =>Create an address locator for CBD Streets (on Page 248), Geocode clients' addresses to CBD Streets (on Pages 248-249), Identify a problem street segment record using Review/Remartch Addresses (on Pages 249-250), Edit a street record (on Pages 250-251), and Rebuild a street locator (on Page 251) - Step 3: right-click PghCBDStreets and click Rebuild. I got the following error: Rebuild Address Locator - Can't rebuild address locator (see the attched file). Please kindly help and tell me where I can find the root of the problem and how to solve this problem. Thanks, Scott Chang Scott, On the geocoding toolbar there is a dropdown menu listing all active address locators. Whatever locator you are trying to rebuild needs to be removed from that list by selecting manage address locators, then removing the locator from the list in the new window. Once that is done you should be able to rebuild and you can make the locator active again by going back into that manage menu. Matt

Add one more jpg file to show the "$" is in the end of the xlsx name. Can the "$" cause the errors? When I try to create the Address Locator, how can I avoid using the "$" that came with the .xlsx file? Scott, Your reference data should be street centerlines, parcels, or some other type of data that has geometry and can be displayed on the map. Check the page below for some assistance in getting started. Also if you are only using one file as reference data it should be the primary table rather than alias table. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//002500000013000000.htm M.O.

Thanks, I ended up using Summary Statistics in the toolbox. My data was already parsed so it was very easy. I would have preferred to sort within my existing table rather than create a new one but this will still help. Any ideas regarding maintaining preferences within the interactive rematch box?

Is it possible to sort my unmatched addresses, in both the attribute table and interactive rematch box, by the frequency of occurence in a field or fields? For example if I have 50000 unmatched addresses, it would be helpful to begin with the street that has the most unmatched addresses. So far I've only been able to find alpha and numeric sorting based on table fields. My second question is how can I save the layout of fields in the interactive rematch box so I don't have to reorganize it every time I close and open it?
