The only storytelling template that has a spash screen currently is the storytelling tabbed one. And you are right, it's very basic in terms of the text. It doesn't support carriage returns. The storytelling text and legend template, while it doesn't have a spash screen, displays the description of the map. In this case, the text formatting is preserved. If you know a bit of programming, you could download the template and customize it. You'd have to then host it on your own web server. Thanks, Mike So Mike in the instance that one downloads the code for a storytelling web app and customizes it to suit their needs the only way to host that customized application is on a web server? We would not be able to load it up into the cloud if we have an organizational subscription? Thanks.

This issue keeps rearing is ugly head for me time and time again. This really makes no sense. Our fabric is in SDE but is not versioned and I am the only one editing it right in default. I 'commit' all my jobs in default, then unjoin a certain group of parcels and there you go, here is this error message. This really makes no sense. I cannot reconcile with default, obviously, because it is not versioned. Has there been a resolution to this yet?

Hello All, We are having a curious reconcile issue within our database. I've attached the following error message I am getting when attempting reconcile with the QAQC version and my own version created from QAQC. I don't really understand this error, but what I am getting out of it is that it is explaining that there is an issue with duplicate primary key values within the table from my version? Note, the primary keys are the object ID and Global IDs so I have no control over these, obviously. Some background info on this table is that it is a table we manage that has the information for all subdivision, annexation, development plans, etc. and is a stand alone table at the root of the database. The table is versioned, and the edits are being pushed to the base tables. We are working in a SQL 2005 database. If anyone can provide any sort of feedback on this error I thank you in advance.

Hey all, A few questions for you. I had learned a while back, when I was having locked parcel issues, that you must "commit" each job while using an SDE fabric version. Can anyone explain to me what committing a job actually does, and if you can perge these jobs? Is it important to keep the running transaction list of each job? What if you don't care to keep them? Can keeping them clog the job interface and decrease performance? I'm just curious if anyone can provide any insight. Thanks in advance! - Nick

Nick, Thanks for your post. I'm looking for different examples of spirals in platted documents, so that we can work on design and specifications for supporting these in a future release. I will contact you directly via e-mail to see if you can share some of these examples. If there are others that would like to contribute please also attach your example to this thread. Thanks, -Tim Hey Tim, Sorry this took so long, I've been really busy around here. Here are a few examples...

For those of you who have spiral curves in your platted documents, I was wondering if you might share some insight on how you are treating them. Right now, all I can really do is omit the radius and just enter in the Chord and Chord length. I then reduce the accuracy of that line due to its "special" definition. Any other ideas?

We have chosen not incorporate PLSS into fabric because we view it as purely representational. We seperate PLSS as its own FC that is not in Fabric. Can you please tell me why you have decided to include PLSS. I am not questioning your process but just want to understand why you would build PLSS into the fabric. I am aware that the type exists for PLSS (T&R and Section, etc) but we have found that the only data we need to record in Fabric are Assessor specific (Tax Parcels, Lots, ROW, etc). Hey Carlos, We are carrying the PLSS info. in our fabric for two reasons. The first being that we incorporate land records information beyond our corporate limits (city limits) which often result in larger tracts which just refer to Quarter Section and Section lines in deeds that provide no legal. Secondly, we feel as though carrying the PLSS data in the fabric will provide an extra layer or two of redundency for least-squares adjustments, particularyly around the edges of our mapping extent.

Hey all, Just wondering how many of you were incorporating the PLSS data (Sections, Quarter Sections, etc.) in the babric? We were thinking about putting it into ours, and were wondering if that is best practice. Thanks in advance!

Hey all, Just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this issue. I've been noticing that the fabric has a hard time with large arc lengths in cul-de-sacs. For example, if a cul-de-sac has one lot and the arc length is large due to the curve not being split, the fabric will really have a hard time assigning the proper arc length over a certain number with a smaller radius, 50-60' for example. Is anyone else coming up with these issues? Attached are images for an example. Regarding the images, on the traverse, the curve going from points 11 to 12, the traverse will literally not allow me to put in the 289.43'. Any ideas?

Interesting. A couple things changed at SP2 in regards to selection. The Parcel Selection tool now displays the selection chip for a single-click selection. This helps when trying to select one of multiple-stacked parcels. This was enhanced to support Parcel Fabric users that have multiple parcel types in the Fabric, and should be seen as an enhancement (hopefully). The second thing is that the Parcel Selection tool will work the same as the standard edit tool. This prevents you from having to continuously switch back and forth between tools just to make selections. The select-ability of layers should be controlled by the 'List by Selection' button on the TOC. I've attached a screenshot for the "selection chip" showing its importance. The screenshot shows the Lot/Tax Parcel phenomena, where you need to only edit the tax parcels, but you also selected the lots. This also works in the Subdivision, lot, tax parcel scenario, or wherever else you may have multiple parcel types stacked. David, the issue that you mention seems to be data specific, I will take a look to see if I can reproduce. I was unable to reproduce this behavior on a series of sample datasets including the tutorial data. Chris Parcel Editing Team Hey Chris, You know what, now that I have read your explanation I have to agree with the parcel selector being used this way. I cannot tell you how many times I've had to open the parcel explored window just to select the parcel type I've wanted to edit, so yes, good job on that one!

As a graduate student I've been exploring the conversion of existing legacy paper CSM's into arcmap. I've never worked with parcels or CSM's before so its really a first step situation. Having just started poking around in 10, I see that there is a parcel tool bar as well as cogo. I have no background in either. lol It seems to me that the help files and tutorials assume users will be EDITING an existing dataset and working with existing parcels shapefiles and databases VS. creating parcels and database from scratch. At this point I'm not sure where to start. Does anybody have some wise advise as to how to get started the correct way? Thanks JP Hey Jason, I recently started a project similar to yours around 6 months ago for our organization. Depending on your project objectives, the best place I suggest starting is to first design/develop your database model and then load a survey control network (points) to start with and then go for it! The fabric environment is really quite simple, particularly the cogo aspect, and off you go!
