@KoryKramer I wish it was that easy. For some reason we are always at least 6 months behind. I have no idea why, but I won't see all of the great stuff I heard about at the UC coming in 3.2 at least until next spring. ☹️

@KoryKramerThanks Kory!! I guess I didn't realize there were 3 pages of comments in this thread or I would've seen that it's 3.1. I really am only having an issue with the width of the layer properties window. I hope this is fixed in that version. Have to get my IT dept to update us to 3.1 which should take about 6 months 🙄

Hi Sarah, Thanks for the suggestion. I can't copy/paste my code because it's on a completely different network but basically I am using the polygon to line GP tool to convert an entire poly to a line (only 1 record in the table). The polygon attribute table has a field with a date in it that I want to add/copy into the line feature class attribute table. What you suggest makes sense, I'll have to see if I can get it to work for my case.

Does anyone know what version this was fixed in? Says at the top that it was implemented, but doesn't say what version. I am on 3.0.3 and still having to resize the layer properties window EVERY SINGLE TIME!!

I am trying to take a date field in a polygon feature class and append/add/copy it to a polyline feature class using modelbuilder in arcpro. I keep getting an error that I cannot do this because the geometries (i.e. shape type) are different, but the date field has absolutely nothing to do with the geometry type. Is there a way to do this within modelbuilder?

I figured I was going to get the negative feedback on sharing a file gdb due to corruption potential issues. This was set up originally for one user, but then others that aren't GIS experts and understand all of these kinds of problems, just started grabbing the original project and saving it off as something they could use since many of the layers they needed also were in there. The problem with publishing it as a service is that they need the ability to edit the polyline, not just access it simultaneously. I'm not talking about simultaneous editing like in google docs, sheets, although that would be ideal. Just the capability for one person to edit while others are just viewing it as a layer in their project. Is there any way to do that? I haven't seen anything about the old starting/stopping of an edit session being added to Pro, but I'm afraid it will cause the same issues as it did in ArcMap where it could cause corruption, and leave the lock file of another person on the dataset until you close out completely and restart the program.

I have a polyline feature class in a file gdb as a layer in several projects. Sometimes some of these projects are open by different users at the same time and one user may need to edit the vertices of the line while the other user is just displaying it (but may need to eventually edit the vertices on a different part of the line) while working on something else in the project. Because they both have the layer "active", I'm assuming that the person who opened their project first had put a lock file on it and the other person cannot edit it. Is there a way around this or a work around so they can both work on their respective projects at the same time editing as needed. It almost seems like the lock file should only execute when the feature class is being edited and then after saving the changes, the lock file releases so multiple people can make changes to it and not have to close ArcPro for the lock to release. The feature class/gdb is on a shared network drive

Thanks for the detailed explanation on how this works. The text in my attribute table was in title text. I didn't realize just changing the text case to uppercase would have an impact on the abbreviations. I made a new field in the attribute table that has the spelling in the case I want it defaulted to and then added the translation and keyword in the abbreviation dictionary as needed. This seems to have fixed all my issues. Thanks again for all of your help!

So this is really strange, but today when I created the no color stroke the labels moved away from the boundary. I have no idea what I did differently. I did confirm before doing it that the never remove (place overlapping) check box was not checked and the overrun maximum was zero. Thanks for your assistance on this Jesse!!

Hmmm. This is a good idea, but I forgot that I am using natural earth data and the boundaries for the countries are in a polyline layer and the countries are in a polygon layer, the latter containing the labels. I tried adding a stroke to the polygon layer (with the labels/abbreviation dictionary), but didn't notice any change even though the labels were clearly overlapping the line (even with it turned on). Can confirm that the overlap is set to zero as well.

This makes sense now the way you described it above. You should consider adding this to the abbreviation and truncate labels help page as it is more descriptive. My only issue is that when I use this method in the abbreviation dictionary, it does not try to fit the entire label first if it can. It just automatically assigns the abbreviation. For example I have Taiwan that I want to be abbreviated Tai. when the feature is too small to fit the entire name, but it always assigns the abbreviation. Is it supposed to work that way? I should have also mentioned that I had the text case assigned to upper case for the layer, because I want most of the labels to be upper case. I have about 70 or so that I need to be mixed case (smaller islands, territories) When I assign "normal" to the text case it makes all my labels that I want uppercase, mixed case. AFGHANISTAN becomes Afghanistan. What I am looking to do is keep AFGHANISTAN if it fits in the polygon, but if it becomes too small then the abbreviation of AFG. should kick in. Same with "Bermuda". I want it to display Bermuda if it fits and if it doesn't then make it "Berm." Is there a way to do this? You cannot use translation if you have multiple abbreviations, correct. That's another issue I'm running into using translation.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "pin" a pane open. Do you mean like pin the catalog pane open on the right side which would change the extent of the area of the map? I always have the same arc layout on my screen so that shouldn't matter. If I have a layout in the exact area I want and create a bookmark, shouldn't that translate to any other layout? It doesn't seem to be doing that. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the bookmark was made in the map frame view and doing that is different then making it in the layout view.

I've created a bookmark in one project where the scale is 1:18,055. I've exported this bookmark to use in another project, but when I import it, it does not match and the scale is at 1:20,182. Is this a known issue? I can't say I've experienced this before.

I am using an abbreviation dictionary with my labels, however sometimes the label is too close to the polygon boundary so I'd like to set a "distance from the polygon boundary" threshold that the label will conform to or it will either decrease in size or use the abbreviation (set by the strategy order). I tried using the "measure offset from the feature geometry" but I don't see any difference. Am I doing something wrong or is there no way to do this?
