OK - i have found a bit of a work around but it is hugely fustrating that I have to do this. Are there any official ESRI guru's out there who can shed some light on this? Work Around - Create graph - Right click on graph > Export > Data > text file - open text file in Excel and alter the M values - Open text file in ArcMap - Re-create graph using text file with correct M values.

I am trying to compare to TIN models along several cross section lines. I have created section lines by interpolating Z values and then M values (linear referencing) for each section line. One of the Tin Models is slightly smaller than the other - so therefore the profile line for this should start 15m after the profile line for the other TIN - however this doesn't seem to be the case when I create the profile. i have checked the M values for each line and they are correct - does anyonehave any ideas as to why this is happening? I've attached a picture to illustrate the problem. The line shown in red should start 15metres after the blue line. PS - I've just had a look at the data in Graph Advanced Properties and the 'x' values do not match the M values, even though I have stipulated that these should be used as the 'x' value.

I understand that you have created points from the line and how to add Z values to a field but how do i extract M values?

Hi Everyone I wonder if someone can help - Ihave to produce some cross-sections and as you are probably aware ArcGIS doesn't do this to scale. so I therefore wondered how i could do this - I know that several people have managed this by Interpolating Z values from a TIN/Raster then creating this line as a route using Linear referencing. After completing this process I need to take the M Values and Z values and re-plot the line using these - as anyone got an idea of how I could do this? Thanks CLaire

I'm trying to automate the spatial join tool as you can only perform I join at a time and i want to join many datasets to 1 target layer.

Hi I wonder whether someone can help - I have a town characterisation dataset which I need to 'spatial join' to some ecological designation datatsets - I thought a quick way of doing this might be in Python. The problem I have is fieldmapping - I don't really get it!! 😞 Ideally, what i'd like to do is create a field and if the designation is within the target layer populate this field with "YES". Help would be greatly appreciated. I've posted my starting code below minus field mappings!! import arcpy
from arcpy import env
env.workspace = r"C:\Users\Documents\GIS\Working\Constraints"
files = arcpy.ListFiles("*.shp")
targetLayer = r"C:\Users\Documents\GIS\Working\LCP\stratford_3d_swedits_1.shp"
for file in files:
#heres where i need to put the spatial join and field mapping code

Hi guys Thanks for your replies and help. This is the code I have used. import arcpy, glob, os
path = r"C:\Users\Documents\GIS\Drawings\Revisions 06042012"
mxdList = glob.glob(path + "\*.mxd")
for mxd in mxdList:
mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(mxd)
print mxd
layers = arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd,"Local Wildlife Sites")
print layers
for layer in layers:
defquery = '"LWS_STATUS"' + " = 'pLWS'"
print defquery
layer.definitionQuery = defquery
mxd.save()

Thanks for your reply - model builder is a good idea but it is part of a bigger script, so would prefer to have it in Python. I've managed to sort it now and the definitionquery works!!:D

Hi All I'd like some help using definition query with layer. Basically, I want to clip a raster several times by using polygons within a feature class. My idea was to use Searchcursor to loop through each row - set the definitionquery for the featureclass, clip the raster, delete the definitionquery then repeat. Would this work? Has anyone got any other ideas? thanks Claire
