No, I was never able to get an answer so I ended up writing a javascript function that essentially just looped and made another call to get the results until results were sent. Not elegant, but that is what I had to do.

Problem solved. My python script was reading in the id to use and because it was a string, it didn't work, even though there was not an error. Once I converted it to an int, the lock was removed.

Hello, I used the arcpy.ListUsers() tool to list current schema locks. I then tried to use the arcpy.DisconnectUser() tool with the lock ID value and the SDE schema connection. When I run the command, there is no error but when I run the arcpyListUsers() again, the schema lock still exists. I am trying to find out why the command ran with no error but the schema lock remained. I am connecting to an Oracle 11g database with an Esri 10.2 geodatabase (SDE schema). Any thoughts? Thanks - Peter

Hello, I have a geo-processing tool that I call from my client's Esri Javascript API where I call the submitJob to start it. When I get the call back that the job process has completed (my callback function), I then get the jobid and call the getResultData() function in order to get the geo-processing tool's response to the request. This has worked as expected for a long time. We recently have had to migrate to new Windows servers (Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2016) and as part of that have migrated from ArcServer 10.2 to ArcServer 10.6. When I added our existing web client in our new enivronment, however, I found some troubling results. Now when the callback function is called to indicate that the process has completed, I get the infamous "cannot complete operation" when making the getResultData() call. I am finding that there is some timing issue. When I make the getResultData() call, ArcServer apparently does not know how or where to find the results based on the jobid. If I wait a few seconds then I can get the results. In other words, the Esri Javascript API said it completed the geo-processing call and gave me a jobid to query ArcServer to get the results, but ArcServer was not yet ready to handle that query properly..... unless I waited a few seconds. Currently, that waiting is roughly 5 seconds (after the completion notification) in order to ensure that I can get the results. Does anyone have any clue as to what may be happening? Thanks - Peter

Say I have a basemap that has 15 zoom levels where zoom level 18 has a map scale of 1:2287 and zoom level 17 has a map scale of 1:4514. Is it somehow possible to set the map extent to what it would look like at a scale of 1:3000? I have a situation where 1:2287 zooms me in too close and 1:4514 is a bit too far out. I would like to see the view at a scale of 1:3000, which would be just about right. I have a feeling that the scale can only be set to the nearest zoom level that the current map is set for and if I want to get to a scale of 1:3000, I just need to find a map that has been set to use a zoom level at that scale. I am not in a position to actually reset the levels, such as what is listed in the Set visible scales | ArcGIS API for JavaScript 3.32 , however. Just wondering if it were possible. Thanks for any thoughts - Peter

Hello, I am running ArcDesktop 10.6.1 and I was looking to use the arcpy.mapping.CreateMapSDDraft tool to create a service definition draft and then ultimately a service definition file via the StageService_server tool. I was able to do that as well as publish the service using the UploadServiceDefinition_server tool. I found, however, that it only published a map service. I need to have both a map and feature service published as well as with certain pooling properties. I did not see anything in the tool's parameters that seemed to let me state that. When I create a service definition file via ArcMap, I am able to get the Service Editor dialog where I can select all of my properties. My question is if there is a way to select service properties for use by the CreateMapSDDraft tool. It doesn't do a lot of good for me if I can't create a feature service via the script tools. Thoughts? Thanks - Peter

Jake, Thanks for the reply. I believe that tool (arcpy.AddDataStoreItem) may be just the thing. I will run some tests tomorrow. It looks very promising. Thanks - Peter

Hello - We are migrating to ArcServer 10.6.1 from 10.4. We have numerous database schemas that we have registered in our 10.4 ArcServer. I am trying to find out if there is a way to programmatically (via Python) register these geodatabase schemas (.SDE connection files) in our new ArcServer rather than having to manually register them one by one via Arc Server Manager. I can't find anything specific online and none of the tools in the toolbox look like they will do what I want. Thoughts? Thanks - Peter

George - Thanks for the reply. I was reading through the docs with respect to sharing web maps and web layers but couldn't find the specific configuration property concerning the data when sharing. I did find another Esri document that mentioned the following: Depending on your active portal, different configurations are available. If you share to an ArcGIS Enterprise portal, there are configurations that reference registered data and configurations that copy data to the server. If you share to ArcGIS Online, there are only configurations that copy data to the server. So it looks like because I was sharing to ArcGIS Online, the default behavior (and non-configurable) is that it will copy the data. That would explain it. I couldn't imagine making a map with a huge amount of data (millions of points, for example) and then trying to share it. Where is Esri putting all of the data (rhetorical). Thanks again - Peter

Hello - As an ArcDesktop user, I have been playing around with Arc Pro. I created an ArcPro project and have a map that contains data from two local file-geodatabases (one from the default project file-geodatabase and one from some other directory). I was then able to share my map on my ArcGIS online site. When I opened the browser and found the map, I can see that each layer of the map has its own service endpoint where I can query the data as well the layer data can be turned on or off in the map view. My question is this....How is ArcGIS Online accessing the data from the two local (my laptop) file-geodatabases? In ArcDesktop for example, if I wanted to publish a map (MXD) as a service, I first had to register the database in the ArcServer where the service would be published and then I could publish the map. The ArcServer would save off all of the necessary map info but it did not save off the data. It just knew how to make a connection to the data. So how does ArcGIS Online get the data my my laptop's two file-geodatabases? I can't believe that all of the data would be somehow be exported from my laptop to some ArcGIS Online data repository. Can someone elaborate on how the data is accessed? Thanks - Peter

George - Thanks for the reply. I guess I figured as much but I thought I would ask. Yes, the primary reason why I wanted to work with an Oracle geodatabase rather than a file geodatabase deals with triggers and stored procedures. Thanks again for your response. - Peter

Hello - I have a home use license for ArcDesktop (Advanced). On the same laptop that I have my ArcDesktop, I have an Oracle XE installation in which I want to use the ArcToolbox's Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool to create a geodatabase in my local Oracle installation. The tool, however, requires an authorization file. After some emails with Esri customer service, I am finding that I can't get an authorization file unless have an ArcGIS for Server license. In other words, in order to create a local Oracle XE geodatabase, I need to purchase a server license. I don't want to purchase ArcServer because I have no need for it and my Oracle installation is not an enterprise database. Does anyone have any other thoughts on if there is any way to create an Esri "enterprise" geodatabase for a local copy of Oracle? I want to be able to create a geodatabase rather than just use file geodatabases for my personal testing and research due to my work environment using an Oracle geodatabase. I have a feeling I am at the end of the line on this topic but thought I would reach out. Thanks - Peter

Hello, This is a reboot question from a year ago that never did get answered and am hoping someone can chime in one way or another: Hello - We are using ArcGIS Server v10.6 and publish both Esri feature and map services. The data resides in an Oracle 12c enterprise database. Some of our feature class data uses domains and we store the code from the domain in the database. These domains are created in ArcCatalog and the domains are assigned to schema attaributes. When you do a query from the service endpoint, the service will return exactly what is in the datastore (ie, the domain codes). Our client application, as well as the ArcMap attributes table, displays the domain value rather than the code because the client goes through a process of translating domain values. What we are wondering is if there is possibly some sort of service configuration item or query flag that will tell the service to return the domain value rather than the domain code. Again, Esri already does this when looking at the data in ArcMap via the attributes table. Thoughts?? Thanks - Peter

Robert - Thanks for the reply. I should have been more precise. We are using Oracle 11g for the data store. When the domains are created via ArcCatalog, that domain data is stored somewhere in the dark bowels of the Esri SDE schema in Oracle. Then when the feature class fields are created in ArcCatalog, the previously created domains can be assigned to the fields. The feature class field values are being populated with the domain codes from the client, so if you were to look at the Oracle database table in SQL Developer for the feature class, you would see a 'code' value. For example, the domain may be an integer domain where the codes are 1, 2, 3, 4 and values (or domain descriptions) are 'red', 'blue', 'green', 'yellow'. The value 1, 2, 3, 4 is what gets stored in the table row. When you use ArcMap and load the feature class and then look at the attribute table, it will list the values 'red', 'blue', 'green', 'yellow'. So ArcMap somehow knows that the field has an associated domain and is displaying the value/description rather than the code. When we do a query via the service endpoint, however, only the code is returned. We would like to know if it is possible for the service to return the value/description, just like the ArcMap client does. Thanks - Peter
