Craziness, but I wanted to say Thank you and I fixed it. The fix was the usual sort of infuriatingly simple computer issue. So I decided to give the connections to a new arcgis online server a go one more time. I put in the same address as above, and then before accepting I added an S after the http. It worked, and I was able then to go to settings in locator and sort it all out. Don't know if it sticks, but I have a solution. Thank you for sticking with me on this. Paula

Hello , Thanks for the help so far, I followed the directions in the link to solve the problem but the option I need to activate doesn't seem to be there. See the attached files. Hi my students and I are using ArcGIS Pro in an introductory class. We are following this assignment https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/author-a-map.htm When they get to the Bookmark section and try and use the locator to find a spot nothing happens. This also happens to me, even outside the assignment. Typing something into the box and pressing return does nothing. I tried to navigate to the location file but it says it is empty. Not sure where to find what I (and my students need). Any help appreciated.

Thanks Geri, but that's not working. Because I get an error message that says Invalid user type and thus I can't add my new students!! Any ideas.... I just tried to do this while adding new students for a class. I was adding new students so I tried to set the User Type as listed above but it won't let me do that. The only option it gives me is Creator and then it says that is not valid, so nothing saved. I tried going and changing all existing members first through the members page on the org, but that didn't give me an option to change either (I'm an administrator). I also tried clicking on Manage User Types, and again the only option is Creator with the following message Creator(formerly Level 2) 51 available Compatible with all roles and licenses Any ideas of how to proceed? The answer I believe is the one given to me by KCullen-esristaff<https://community.esri.com/people/KCullen-esristaff> in that thread (although we'd figured it out by the time I got the response). It is counter intuitive but you see the group only through your own content that you want to share until update access which is not what you'd think you were doing. Not sure why, but as Allen notes I have tried both, added students and assigning passwords with no notification and by sending emails. If I do this well before a class I can be sure a good number of people can't log in. Sometimes it takes multiple tries to get them logged in.

Thanks Kate: After multiple tries asking this question through geonet I finally had found someone who noted that I needed do this through 'my content'. I was completely unclear to me from the other entries how to make the choices for Access appear, and even from that it was really just by poking around that I realized that if I checked the box by the file the 'share' option with access etc appeared! I have created a group in our org account for my students. I've added all the students, yet neither they, nor I can 'share' to the group as the group doesn't appear in share. Not sure what is up. This did not happen previously when I created groups but it has meant they can't work on projects together.
