I am attempting up upgrade from ArcGIS Server 10.4.1 to Enterprise 10.5 and I receive the following error when going through manager: Upgrade step 2 of 2 : Failed. Cannot start machine as it does not participate in an cluster. As far as I am aware this server is not part of a cluster so not sure why that is causing failure. There is no way to login and change settings, or even see what is going on. The only options it gives me is to upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to have to uninstall and start all over. Thanks in advance.

Also since you are running SDE, I wonder if ArcGIS Server cannot access the data after some length of time caching? Like a server gets restarted, or something times out? Just thinking and typing.

I am not sure on the answer but I would double check folder permissions for your cache directory and workspace directory. I would also check the task manager while caching to see if you are hitting 100%. If I max number of instance my server will run I always get caching errors. If I bump the number of services down I dont usually get the errors. I hope this helps.

I have users editing attribute data in the flex viewer to an SQL 2012 database that has editor tracking enabled. My question is how do I get the username of the user editing to populate in the editor tracking? They are only making attribute changes and no spatial changes and that seems to be the hangup. Thanks in advance.

I have been thinking and reading a lot about ArcGIS for Server security lately. My current dev server has the web adapter up and running, the rest services directory turned off, and SSL enabled. Currently users connect independently (not through Portal) though Flex Viewer apps and security is handled by domain user at the IIS (Web Tier) Level. Users do not have direct access to the SQL DB, nor can they login through ArcMap (most dont even have it). When installing ArcGIS Portal and Federating the server I seem to have lost all ability to access ArcGIS Manager and now all service securities are run through Portal which seems to not function quite as well as through Manager. My question is what security holes am I leaving open? What access point have I left vulnerable? If I mark all services as 'public' and have the rest directory turned off, with no username access to portal, through ArcMap, or though SQL what potential hazards could I be facing? It is also worth mentioning that all of this is only accessible through our internet and will not be on the internet. Another thought... What are your opinions of SSL in an intranet? Thanks and I look forward to your responses!

James - this work around only works some of the time. My work around was to create the cache on a different server where the caching works. Hopefully this was addressed in 10.3.1 and cache will get back to normal. Sorry I dont have a better solution for everyone.

Greetings! I am receiving and error when trying to create a MapService Cache in ArcGIS for Server 10.3 with all the patches. The error is: Output failure, error string - Error moving bundle Failed to cache extent: The Workspace is not connected Failed to execute (ManageMapServerCacheTiles Everytime I try the first level of cache (10, 577,790.554289) returns 100% then after 2 or 3 levels of other random percents it throws that error. I want to say the workspace is connected because it caches some of the other levels. How do I go about resolving this? I am not even really sure where to start. I verified my arcgis account permissions on the appropriate folders... My setup is windows server 2012 running AGS 10.3 with IIS on one virtual machine and SQL Data (connected as dbo MSSQL 2012) and cache being stored on another Windows 2012 Virtual Server. Any thoughts, or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I totally just realized that using SyncToy also requires that you change all the server names on Server B....

I have 2 production servers I would like to keep in sync so Server B is an exact replica as Server A. So far I have automated with SyncToy to keep the Flex Viewers in sync, but havent had much luck using the Admin tools for ArcGIS Server and then scheduling tasks to run. Is there an easier way to do that? How do you keep multiple servers in sync? I am running Server 10.3 on Windows Server 2012 with IIS.

Yeah, I have the license, it is just setting it up. High-availability seems like a great concept. That way if one is on vacation or it is the middle of the night, it can switch over and just run until the problem can be addressed. I feel it can help remove some urgency in getting the initial server back up and running.

Thanks Chris - I believe I want to run the Active-Passive failover. With 10.3, it was my understanding that the license covers a failover installation. I could have sworn you can do it without the load balancer with just the web portal (proxy server). I will keep researching your presented links and update what I come up with. Thanks Chris!
