Thank you for the reply! Our IPV6 is disabled, but the behavior we're experiencing appears to be different than the behavior outlined in the geonet post you linked though. Also, we started experiencing this issue in 10.9.1, so as long as this bug is new to 11.2, then I don't think that would explain the issue we're experiencing.

Thanks for replying back! We're just using Esri's web adaptor and not any third party reverse proxies or anything like that. Support did have me attempt to create a hosted feature service on the Portal machine itself, using the local machine name URL which bypasses all the web adaptors and I continue to experience the same error. So I'm thinking with that troubleshooting step, we've at least ruled out anything on the web adaptor side of things. I didn't think to check the certificates, so I'll verify those. I think I've heard of certificate issues causing random issues, so I'll check that out. Thank you!

I'm having an issue where we are intermittently unable to create hosted feature services using ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 on Windows. This includes creating hosted feature services directly through the Portal UI as well as creating Survey123 forms. The only error message I receive is: Create Service exception 'java.lang.Exception: Exception: Read timed out' Survey123 explicitly gives that error message, while Portal gives a generic error message in the web page, but I can see the same error message when viewing the internet traffic. It is a read timed out error, but it usually fails within seconds of attempting to create a hosted feature service. Esri is not producing any error messages in the Portal, Server, or Data Store logs when this error occurs. This one error message is literally the only error message I'm seeing. This has happened to multiple people at various times with various hosted feature services/S123 forms, including Esri's template hosted feature services you can create through Portal. I'm working with Esri support on this one, but does anyone else have any ideas on what this could be? We've already ruled out anti-virus/firewall and the ArcGIS Data Store successfully validates through Server Manager.

I am trying to optimize our feature services as much as possible and noticed there is a cacheControlMaxAge parameter. I was able to successfully set this parameter because I can see that parameter being set when watching the internet traffic (see this Esri article for reference https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/publish-services/windows/feature-services-and-client-applications.htm#) However, I was wondering how the cacheControlMaxAge is intended to be used, or if it works how I think it's supposed to work? What I would like, and what appears that this feature is intended to do per the documentation, is to temporarily cache the results of the feature service in a map viewer for X minutes so if someone pans around in the map, it won't resend that request for features that are already drawn to the ArcGIS Server and therefore saving internet bandwidth and server resources. However, in my testing, I am seeing that features are not actually getting cached in the browser. For example, I will open a map and load a few layers. I will then edit the layer directly in the DB through ArcGIS Pro. Then, still within the cache timeframe, I will pan around and see that the data has been updated. To my understanding, if the data is truly cached, I should not be able to see any data updates until I reach the cache max age, correct? If I am correct, that is not working properly in my test environment. And if I am not correct, can someone tell me how the cacheControlMaxAge is intended to work and be used?

As of now, for built-in Portal named user accounts, multi-factor authentication is all or nothing meaning that MFA applies to ALL accounts on Portal. My idea is to allow us to create MFA "groups" that allow us to enforce MFA for certain individuals or members of a specific role, but not for everyone in Portal. For example, security best practices state that administrator accounts should have more stringent security policies, such as requiring MFA. My idea would satisfy this requirement to enforce MFA for administrator accounts, without requiring every account on Portal to have MFA.

Keep in mind that while it's just a PG DB under the hood, Esri adds a lot of functionality on top if it so it works with Portal. So you should treat it as a "view only" DB and not make any modifications to it.

"Hacking" the conf file isn't necessary though. Esri provides all the documentation needed to support this workflow. All you need to do is run the listmanageduser command, and then run the allowconnection command with the hostname of the computer you want to be able to access the data store from PGAdmin, and the username of the output from the listmanageduser command. This will add the computer to the conf file without needing to "hack" it. It's all documented here: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/data-store/latest/install/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm

You will need to republish the feature service in order for the new field to be visible in your feature service. At least in the old Portal map viewer, any new fields you add are hidden by default in the pop-up, so you'll need to make sure that the new field is turned on in the pop-up after republishing the feature service. And just to clarify, by republish, I mean you can republish by overwriting the existing feature service. You don't have to create a new one.

Of course the usual disclaimer applies and make sure you have backups, etc. before doing anything. First of all, reindex your Portal first just in case that helps. That was the first troubleshooting step, but that didn't help me. Go to the Portal rest endpoint (https://webadaptorhost.domain.com/webadaptorname/sharing/rest) and login with an admin account. After logging in, go to the home page of the rest endpoint and click Users and search for the user you cannot delete. At the very bottom of the user page, you should see a User Content button. Click it. This will give you a list of all the content that user owns. (If you don't see any content here, you can ignore the rest because something else must be wrong). Click the item, although you might get a message saying you don't have permissions to access it (even as an admin). If you can access it, try to delete the item from that page, but I had the permission issue. RDP into the Portal machine, stop the Portal service, and navigate to C:\arcgisportal\content\items Create a new folder and name the folder as the Item ID number from the rest endpoint (the ID will be in the name of the item). Note: If the folder with that ID already exists, delete the contents of it and follow the steps below Inside the folder, copy the contents of any other working item into the folder you just created. Start the Portal service Try to delete the item from the Portal rest endpoint (might need to do a full reindex). In my case, the item just magically disappeared and I didn't have to "delete" anything, but support did tell me to delete the item if it was still there. Hopefully that will work for you. If you don't see that user owning any items in the Portal rest endpoint, then there must be some other issue. And I'm not sure how to resolve it if they own an orphaned group or something, but this worked for me for an orphaned item.

Currently, ArcGIS Server only allows for one shared instance pool of feature services that ALL feature services share. My idea is that we have shared instance pool "groups." These groups would work the same as the current shared instance pool, except we could specify the number of shared instances per group. This is beneficial to organizations who have multiple projects hosted on their server, or otherwise need to group feature services together in their own shared pooling without the hassle of managing dedicated instances. I envision that you can create shared instance "groups" in server manager where you can assign a number of shared instances, and then be able to assign individual feature services to that shared instance pool. This is beneficial because you can still take advantage of the shared instance pooling, but at a project/group level where you don't have multiple projects/groups competing for resources in the single large shared instance pool, and without having to manage dedicated pooling at the feature service level.

If it is saying that you can't change the user type because they own content/groups, even though they don't, then there is a chance that it won't let you delete the account for the same reason. I had this same problem and had to reach out to Esri support and they were able to tell me how to force delete the account. If you're unable to delete the account, I might be able to dig up the details of what Esri support told me to do if you're interested.

Technically no, they didn't develop it for Windows 11. They decided to use the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) which allowed them to essentially copy their Android version of Field Maps into the Android Subsystem with minimal development effort. They did not develop a native Windows 11 app. But they did get the rug pulled out from under them with the deprecation of the (WSA). This wouldn't have been an issue if a native Windows 11 app was built from the beginning though.

And you also need to set your component to the Windows Host component, not the ArcGIS Server component (at least that's how I have mine configured).

Esri was completely silent about Windows 11 support at the Dev Summit last week. I went to multiple Field Maps/Apps sessions and no one even acknowledged it in the ones I attended. And in one of them while talking about OS compatibility, they only mentioned Android/iOS without acknowledging Windows 11 retirement. I talked to the Field Maps team in the Expo and their official stance is not in the product plan at this time. Here is Esri's official statement on Field Maps on Windows 11: https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/arcgis-field-maps-on-windows-subsystem-for-android-depr-000032174 I was personally told ArcGIS Earth as an alternative, but it's a pretty bad replacement (not calling ArcGIS Earth bad, but a bad replacement for Field Maps). If you ever used the Google Earth program, it's essentially a copy of that. You can use MMPKs in them, but they do not respect pre-set symbology, meaning your symbology is going to change every time you bring it into Earth. It doesn't track user's GPS location. S123 launch links do no work. And popup information takes many seconds to load, vs. the same web map in Portal taking only a second. I've never tried this on a Windows 11 tablet, but you might be able to run an Android emulator and use Field Maps that way, although I don't know how well the performance of am emulator would be on a tablet though.
