Hello! I was wondering if there was a way to make it so that multiple people could view a map at the same time without having to come into contact with the dreaded red !. Currently the data and .mxd file is stored on a communal server and everyone has access to the file and data but when one person has it open and another opens it, the red ! comes up. Is there a way to "share" the file, like when an excel spreadsheet can be shared among multiple people? or perhaps a mode where it is "read-only"? Thank you! Alex

Could the issue lie in that not all of my data has GPS locations? The attribute is there because it may be added in the future, but for now the values are showing as <Null>

Hi Melita! I did some digging, and it turns out the points are actually displaying just fine on the map if I actually search the coordinates, but for some reason, when i use the "Zoom to" function it takes me to the completely wrong place on the map, sometimes not on the map at all. Any ideas? Thanks

I've talked with the GIS people at work and they can't seem to figure it out either. The points seem to be plotting somewhere, just not on the map like i want them to be. To me it seems like these new points are using a different coordinate system than they should be. I'll try reloading the cache.

Yes, Yes, Yes. However, I have attempted to remake the layer on several occasions without any symbololgy or queries and the problem still persists.

The map was not open when I was editing the data. The data is present in the attribute tables of the layers, just not displaying properly

Hi All, I am currently using ArcMap 10.2. I have a data layer which is displayed using the "Display XY Data" function. It is connected to an excel spreadsheet (not exported) to make sure that any data that is added is updated to the map. I added a few new points to the excel sheet which are to be plotted on the map, which are in the same format as the previous points, however when I reopen the map, the NEW data points do not plot and don't seem to show up even when using the Zoom To function. All the while, the old data points are still plotting no problem. I have tried to redisplay the XY data by creating a new event, however the same still happens; the original points are plotting, but the new points are non-existent it seems. Does anyone have any advice on this issue? Thank you, Alex

Hello, I was wondering if there was away to create exclusive filters in ArcMap 10.2. For example: Priority Hydrocarbons? Chlorides? Site 1 1 Yes Yes Site 2 2 No Yes Site 3 2 Yes No If on my map I was displaying sites with hydrocarbons (1 and 2) and then I wanted to show sites with hydrocarbons AND chlorides (1), or a site with hydrocarbons AND priority 2 (3), after selecting the second parameter the map would only show those sites which are positive for both of those? Thanks, Alex

Thank you Dan. Our current databases don't contain the information I need but the idea is to eventually move to an access database, but that is still some time away. This is a temporary situation to present to upper management until our databases are updated in the future

If the data is being updated in the excel spreadsheet, is it possible to use a join or a definition query to ensure the most up to date data is used?

Thank you for your suggestions Chris, I will try them. The software is Arcmap 10.1, unsure of license level. The data is a feature class in an Enterprise Geodatabase I think. The join is still active. And, I do not believe so.

Thank you, I was unaware it was temporary, I thought if the selection was made a layer, it would be more robust. If I use the Copy tool, will the data still be able to update from the excel dataset?

I mean it is possible I guess. I have no control over that. Does the OBJECTID matter if I have joined based on some other attribute?

Hello, I have a map where I've loaded the bulk data from the company database. I have data in an excel spreadsheet that I have imported and joined to one of the data sets in the corporate data. From this joined table I have created a bunch of layers using the "Create Layer from selected features" function. All was working OK (points were plotting, all layers were working fine) until one day last week the attribute tables of the layers I had created were blank and the points were no longer plotting on the map. Both the corporate database attribute table and the imported table are full of data and not blank, also the corporate data plots on the map no problem. However my created layers no longer plot on the map. Does anyone have any solution or advice on this matter? Alex
