I have a custom ArcCatalog application that I would like to have automatically switch to the Description Tab when the form opens. Does anyone know how to go about doing this?

You could also create a mosaic dataset in a geodatabase. Once you have added your raster(s) to the dataset, you can just bring in the mosaic dataset into ArcMap. You will notice that associated with this dataset, in the table of contents, is a footprint layer. These are polygons of the footprints of your raster(s). You can go into the attributes of this layer and export out which ever footprints you need.

Hi, I want to try building some new 'add-in' files for ArcGIS 10. I have installed Visual Basic 2008 Express. I have also installed the .NET SDK file. When installing the SDK, I ensured that the Express Integration option was checked. It appears that the install went well. When I start a new project I am able to create an ArcMap Add-In. I am also able to add any of the initial 'Add-In' types. This is where things go a bit strange.... I am able to add additional components to my project from the ArcGIS Add-Ins Wizard (this includes, buttons, tools, combo boxes, multi-items, extensions, Editor Extensions and Dockable Windows). When I try to add something from the Add-in Command Bars section in the wizard the only thing I am able to add is a toolbar. If I try to add a tool pallete, menu or context menu I get an error message saying: "The following selected add-in type(s) cannot be generated due to invalid inputs and or unknown errors". I am fairly new to developing in .NET so I may be doing somethig wrong here which is causing the error. Has anyone else come across this issue? Is this an installation / integration issue? Is there a way to fix this? Is there a specific order things need to be installed (ie. VSE 2008 before the SDK or vice versa)? My other problem is that there is no ArcGIS Snippets available in my projects. When I right click to insert a snippet of code, I do not get the "ArcGIS Snippet" option in the context menu. Again is this an installation thing. I was thinking that maybe it could be a Visual Studio Express thing.... do I need the full version of Visual Studio to get these options running properly? Sorry for the long winded post.... It's been a long road to figure out how write usable code in VB Express that can be used in ArcGIS.... but the process is even more frustrating when not all the pieces are working properly. Thanks for your time in advance, Sean

This appears to be an issue at Beta 2. We have tested this with the pre-release and it is working now. Another thing to be aware of is that we did make the change at pre-release that requires the dot in the version number, so your script will need to be updated to ??9.3?? when you get pre-release. Please get the pre-release when it is available and give it another try and let us know how it goes. Thanks David... will do.

Does this line need to be '9.3' instead of '93'? MXD.saveACopy("U:\\Projects_VAN\\1961\\0245\\17\\D-Drafting-Design-Analysis\\GIS\\Projects\\mxds\\93\\" + os.path.splitext(file)[0] + "_V_9_3.mxd", '93') Not sure if this is why, but have you tried it? I tried it, and python threw the following error: Invalid value for version: '9.3' (choices are: ['90', '93', '92', '94', '83']) The help for saveACopy() also says the version needs to be listed as string as one of those 5 versions... Thanks for the thought but I am still stuck...

Hi, I have written a small python script to save the ArcGIS 9.4 files I have created back to version 9.3. The script seems to run fine, but when I try to open the files in Arc 9.3 I get an error message saying the files have been created in a newer version of ArcGIS. In the help it says if you do not specify a version number that it defaults to an Arc 9.4 file. Has anyone had success doing this, or is this a bug, or (most likely) am I doing something wrong. Here is the script: import arcpy from arcpy import env import os import arcpy.mapping as MAP env.workspace = "U:\\Projects_VAN\\1961\\0245\\17\\D-Drafting-Design-Analysis\\GIS\\Projects\\mxds" for file in arcpy.ListFiles("*.mxd"): mxdFile = os.path.splitext(file)[0] + ".mxd" MXD = MAP.MapDocument("U:\\Projects_VAN\\1961\\0245\\17\\D-Drafting-Design-Analysis\\GIS\\Projects\\mxds\\" + mxdFile) MXD.saveACopy("U:\\Projects_VAN\\1961\\0245\\17\\D-Drafting-Design-Analysis\\GIS\\Projects\\mxds\\93\\" + os.path.splitext(file)[0] + "_V_9_3.mxd", '93') print "Files Saved" Thanks in advance for your help...

I have tried to run ArcObjects code written in VBA in ArcGIS 9.3.1 and I get an error: "Compile Error: Can't Find Project or Library". Does this mean that I have to rewrite my code in ArcGIS 9.4? Is there some way around this?
