Hi there, I have a raster file created through the Combine tool (Spatial Analyst--->Local). The attribute table is showed below. Its resolution is roughly 10m. I would like to aggregate it to 50m with each aggregated cell (including 25 small cells) having the sum of those attributes (SFDVal, MFDVal, MHVal and etc.) from the 25 small cells. I tried several ways (aggregation, zonal etc) but it seems like all of them are working on the actual cell value of the combined raster, instead of other attributes. But I only want to get a sum aggregation on those attributes, not the cell value. Anyone suggestion is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I was going to draw a 3d line on a surface which I extrude from another 3d line. But there is a snapping issue that bothers me so much. It seems like the line cannot be snapped on the surface. So some part of the line is blocked by the extruding surface. I put a screenshot for demonstrating (orange line is what I draw and the grey surface is from extruding another 3d line). I am wondering how the snapping works and how to configure it. If there is no way to configure the snapping, is there any place that I can change the extruding surface texture to sort of transparent so that users could see that where the line is if it is blocked. Never mind. I figure that out. It is because that I didn't set the isactive property binded to the button, so clicking button doesn't make the map refreshed.

Hey Dominique, I use the two types of print styles in my application, one is with legend and the other is with text. The one with legend works well. But there is some wrong with the one with text. I actually need the text change instead of keeping it fixed. So the logic is that first it will perform a spatial query, then a childwindow pop up to show the query result, the summary information and two buttons. So if the user clicks 'Generate printable report', he will see the report that is going to be printed. The text on the left side will actually changed as the spatial query results. I put a textloaded event in the printer style. Then I found for the first time, the map and the text in the print report is correct. But if I close it and do another spatial query, the stuff showed in the print report doesn't change, which should change since I go to another place to draw a polygon and do the spatial query. My first thought is that maybe the binding is wrong. But I realize that the binding should be correct since for the first time both map and text info are good. It looks like the print page never get updated! Could you advice what might be the problem? I have struggled for a few days but still didn't get is solved 😞 Thank you advance!

Hi everyone, I have been thinking about this question recently and still have some parts that I feel confused. I hope to get more ideas. When I program the code in my projects, I don't give too many thoughts on such question. I think it is time to get some clear and general ideas on this. So typically what is the benefit of rendering data on client side and what is the benefit of rendering data on server side? We usually first need to publish a map service in ArcGIS Server and then add either dynamicmapservice or titlemapservice in xaml page or cs page referencing the url of the map service. This process I think we are rendering the data on the server side and then use the data. Do we rendering the data to the client in this process? If not then do we request to the server when zoom in/out the map? I feel very confused on this part...I think we don't make such request to the server (in web adf, all the map action make request to the server), otherwise it will slow down the response speed. If we perform a query task and display the results on a graphcislayer, we need to add a graphicslayer in xmal or cs page first. So adding a graphicslayer should be rendering data on the client side since there is no service url referenced for the graphicslayer. Then how about featurelayer? It refers to a particular layer in the service so it actually has a url reference, which means featurelayer is rendering data on the server side? Or it just make request to the server, retrieve graph feature data and render the data on the client side?

Yes, this was marked obsolete in 2.2 when ScaleLine was introduced: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/2.2/help/index.html#/What_s_new_in_2_2/0166000000m2000000/ and deprecated in 2.3: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/help/index.html#//0166000000mm000000 Thank you Jennifer. So if I update the reference to 2.2 and I still use scalebar, instead of scaleline, is there any issue it may cause?

One more question: how do I control the units it displays? I can set english vs. metric, but what if I always want it to display feet? Hi Mark, Not sure this is what you want. Below is the code I use for scalebar to change the display unit with a combobox.
private void UnitCombo_SelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e)
{
if (SetUnitBorder.Visibility == System.Windows.Visibility.Visible)
{
string _unit = UnitsCombo.SelectedItem.ToString();
if (_unit == "FEET")
MyScaleBar.DisplayUnit = ScaleBarUnit.Feet;
else if (_unit == "MILES")
MyScaleBar.DisplayUnit = ScaleBarUnit.Miles;
else if (_unit == "METERS")
MyScaleBar.DisplayUnit = ScaleBarUnit.Meters;
else if (_unit == "KILOMETERS")
MyScaleBar.DisplayUnit = ScaleBarUnit.Kilometers;
}
}

Hi everyone, After update ESRI's sl api reference from 2.1 to 2.2, will scalebar be affected since we get the following warning. And in esri's sl latest sample, scalebas is replaced by scaleline. But from the sl api reference, scalebar is still under ESRI.ArcGIS.Client class. 'ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.ScaleBar' is obsolete: 'Use ScaleLine control in ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Toolkit namespace.'

That's coming from a mix of dlls version. To make it working: Check your project references Clean your solution Exit Visual studio Remove your project bin and obj folders Open again VS Rebuild your project : this should work. Thank you Dominique! I tried the above steps and I even delete the two reference, MapPrinting and MapPrintingControls, but the errors are still there. Looks like there are only two element in controls, CloneMap and SurrogateBinder, the others are gone. Do you have other thoughts on this? Thank you:)

Hi everyone, I am using the silverlight printing sample from code gallery (http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=e361c2cc69784fcba34358d0458f66e3). Everything works fine. But after I update esri's reference from 2.1 to 2.2, I got such error on the following code in xaml
<controls:PrintOverviewLayer TextSymbol="{x:Null}" >
<controls:PrintOverviewLayer.ExtentFillSymbol>
<esri:SimpleFillSymbol BorderBrush="Red" BorderThickness="3" Fill="Transparent" />
</controls:PrintOverviewLayer.ExtentFillSymbol>
</controls:PrintOverviewLayer>
It says: A value of type 'PrintOverviewLayer' cannot be added to a collection or dictionary of type 'LayerCollection'. I am not sure whether that is because there is a conflict when the reference is 2.2? Has anybody run into this before? Any suggestions or hits are appreciated! 🙂

Hey Dominique, thank you for replying. I see your point. So following your suggestion, I use the query to filter some of the features in the layer and add these features into the graphicslayer. When the user uses the identify tool, he could also ID the original layer although this layer is not include in the map. Thank you again!

Hey Dominique, thank you for your advice! The query task is used to filter the features. After the features are filtered, the user still wants to use identify task. Because the identify task would perform on multiple map services, there is a datagrid to display the results. If only one or two fields from a single one layer, I would like to use the map tip or infowindow, but they want to display all the results from different map service and each records will contain many fields.... I am going to tell the project manager this issue.

Hi guys, I know that identify task can perform on the layers in the map service by assign the layer's url, but I am just wondering whether it can also perform on a graphicslayer that I added in the xaml page. The reason why I want to do this is that the user only wants some of the features in a layer to display. There is a combox used for choosing fiscal year, like 2011 or 2012. If the user choose 2011, then only the features belongs to the 2011 will display on the map. I am thinking to use a query task to implement this part. Then the query results will be added on a graphicslayer. The other need is to perform identify task on the result features, which is the part that I am concerned. I am not sure whether the identify task could be performed on the graphicslayer. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated! Thanks advance!
