Does anyone know why the south African national grid projections display upside down in ArcMap? ESRI appear to have deviated from the standard EPSG definitions by inverting the scale factor. If I customise the scale factor then it displays the correct way up again. In desktop this is fine but on the web it is causing me issues For example I have some data that is correct if using EPSG definition 2054. The ESRI definition with the same coordinate system but inverted scale factor is 102488. Unfortunately my coordinate data is in a third party system and I'd prefer not to edit it. The WKID is stored in that system as 2054. Unfortunately the out of the box geometry server does not include 2054 as a definition so on projecting in a webmap it fails to recognise the WKID and puts the data at the same coordinate location in web Mercator (middle of the atlantic ocean) I presume there is some specific reason why the projections have been configured this way but at the moment without either customising my geometry server or changing my coordinate data it simply doesn't work online. I'm resigned to the fact that I probably need to make one of these changes but would really like to understand the reasoning behind this deviation from EPSG Thanks (Willing to bet it will be Melita that picks this one up!)

We have the same behaviour with 10.3 but the workaround does not work. When we attempt to clean or add esriEveryone we get the error java.lang.NullPointerException I suspect the root cause is something different and we will raise with ESRI support but curious if anyone on this thread has any thoughts Thanks

Hi Bradley, Did you identify a solution for this. We're trying to do the same thing right now. We have the option to host linked content outside of AGO but it's easier for our users if we can do it all within the AGO platform Thanks

Looks like I've resolved all issues. I'll post up some helpful tips once I've done final troubleshooting on the code (Pat - please ignore my private message and thanks very much for getting me started!)

So I believe I've made some progress with this but still needing a few pointers 🙂 I've created a stripped down version of the basic viewer and have a very basic working application pulling a public webmap and using the TOC widget (there are some issues with the tOC widget functionality itself I want to resolve but I believe I know what to do there) I've disabled the default click event handler so default popups are no longer appearing but I can't work out how to connect up a new onClick event to point to the custom identify task. I've attached a full copy of the code. No changes have been made to the TOC.js. all code is in javascript/layout.js Line 138 - disconnect existing click event handler Line 139 - attempted to connect onClick event Line 365 - initate TOC Line 404 - identify task function I'm fairly new to JavaScript so please bear with me with any major/stupid errors. One final question. If I understand the identify code correctly then it is only looking at a single operationalLayer (Line 433: "operationalLayers[0]") so I'll need to add in an additional loop to manage multiple operational layers? Thanks in advance Simon

Pat This looks like exactly what I need but I can't see exactly how to get it to work in my application. We have a modified version of the ESRI Basic Viewer Template with the TOC widget up and running I'm not clear on a few things that hopefully you can provide some more detail on 1. How to ovverride the response.clickeventhandle 2. Where this code should be inserted (I'm assuming in the main layout.js rather than in the TOC.js) 3. how to call the executeTOCIdentifyTask function Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Simon I can see I'm also missing the definition of IdentifyTask - how do you do this for a webmap rather than with a url as a parameter?

I should have added that layer level descriptions within the map service is a nice to have. At this point the minimum we're looking for is being able to get each dynamic map service description displayed (to be clear - not the webmap description, each webmap has multiple map servcies). We could therefore potentially retrieve that information from the service description within ArcGIS Online if that's easier to setup

We have a custom javascript application template (built up from the basic viewer template) that we're using to view ArcGIS Online webmaps. Each webmap typically contains more than one dynamic map service (hosted on our own ArcGIS Server 10.1 instance). When referencing the services in ArcGIS Online our preference is to embed the secure login credentials. When we do this the url shown in ArcGIS Online is no longer referenced to our server (i.e. http://mycompany/arcgis/rest/services) but instead points to https://utility.arcgis.com/usrsvcs/rest/services. What we would like to be able to do in the application is provide users the ability to view both map service and layer descriptions (visible in our rest directory) so for example a user can click on the map service or layer name in the map contents and see a pop-up window showing e.g. the description, copyright, extent; but not having to go to a new browser window and view in rest. Have spent some time reviewing samples, the API reference and testing but have not been able to retrieve any of this information. If we don't embed the secure credentials in ArcGIS Online then we can at least query the correct rest url but can't use this to get the selected rest information we require. Any advice on how to tackle this (or even better, an actual solution!) would be welcome Thanks

William, Thanks for the detailed response - it helped get to the rotue of the problem. The paths within the raster catalog had not been updated (didn't realise that file GDB, unlike PGDB, does not support relative paths). Setting the path to local server drive fixed the issue and published very quickly (we still have slow times with standalone file based rasters but can live with that for the time being) Cheers

We are definitely not copying data to the server when publishing. This issue occurs with any raster we've tried including the following: file based rasters - TIFF and JPEG mosaic datasets (file based images) unmanaged raster catalogs Just tried doing this with a raster catalog this mornign and after about 3 hours theservcie publishing result (in ArcGIS Desktop) came back as ERROR 001269: Compressing the Service Definition Failed. Haven't had a chance to look up what this means yet. Previously when working with raster layers it has always published eventually

We're on ArcGIS Server 10.1 and find that publishing any map servcies that contain raster layers is very slow (an increases with the number of ratser layers in the map). Publishing vector-only map servcie by comparison is extremely rapid. We're not copying data to the server when publishing or creating caches. It seems like the publishing should just be a simple process. Where we use image services we have no comparable issues but this is not always possibel or preferred. Any ideas on how we can speed up publishing?

Thanks for all of the useful information on this old thread - it has really helped progress a current project despite the age of the original post. I'm hoping to extend this approach a little further and have a couple of additional issues we're currently trying to resolve 1. We've been able to populate fields with pre-defined values but these do not appear in the attribtue inspector when it opens, closing the inspector and reopening it then shows the values. We've tried both selection complete and edits starting and get the same behaviour 2. We'd like to extend the validation of fields to compare values between fields. For example we need the end date to alwasy be greater than the start date. I can see a way to do this working with a completely custom attribute inspector but would like to do this with the default attribute inspector associated with the editor. Any thoughts on the best approach for this would be welcome Thanks in advance
