I have a Collector App that works great on iOS, but I need to get it working for Android, and i'm having problems setting it up in AGO. The Collector App is for asset inspections. I don't need my crews to add new features. I just want them to select a feature and fill out a form. The data is then sent to a db on SDE. The iOS UI works great on phones and tablets. I select the asset, click Edit and a new form pops up for my crews to fill out. There is no way for them to add a new asset without clicking the "+" on the main UI. However....Android...sigh. The second i open up the Collector App on two different Android tablets it asks if i want to Collect New assets. I don't want to, so i minimize this option. I select the asset i want to edit, a Features window pops up, and i need to pull the bottom right arrow to select Edit. The form is not full screen. Annoyingly, It has a small 1/8" space between the end of the form and the map. When i try to select an item in the form to edit by clicking the bottom right triangle is where my problems start. If i "fat finger" anywhere at the edge of the form it starts to add vertex's to my line assets, if i accidentally click anywhere in the map, it adds an asset. So...because of this Android problem i want to limit my Feature Layer to just Update Feature Attributes Only. Here is where i'm having an issue and need some help. I have my asset FC in SDE. The only way i can add the FC to AGO and get the option to Update Feature Attributes Only is to Add my FC as a Feature Layer in My Content by selecting Create - Feature Layer. Then add the Feature Layer into my Map. The problem with doing it this way is the FC is empty. I can't see any of my assets. If i add the FC to My Content by Add Item through the web, and adding the URL of my FeatureServer, it shows up, i can see my assets, but i don't have the option to "Update Feature Attributes Only". It's not an option when i click Edit. Any idea how to add a FC from SDE to AGO My Content as a Feature Layer where your assets show up? Sorry for the long winded explanation to get to the question, but i needed to setup why i'm doing it this way. Thank you to anyone that can provide guidance! Much appreciated!

After some testing, it appears SDE needs to be upgraded to 10.x in order for sync to work. While upgrading server to 10.2.2 allowed the ability to sync data with collector and SDE. There's a new sync button available. You need to change your feature classes to archived and unversioned. To do that requires SDE 10.x. I am able to version my FC's and archive them. But i cannot make them unversioned and archived. I get an error message telling me to update. Very frustrating, i wish ESRI had posted minimum requirements to use the Collector app.

I am having a problem posting edits from collector to our SDE database. Our SDE is 9.3, and our AGS is 10.2. Does SDE need to be 10.2 in order to edit SDE data in collector?

The number one request of my field staff that uses ArcPad 10 on Panasonic Toughbooks (CF-19) is to be able to search for an address. I know you can do a search with the Find button, and you could configure Street Map to search for an address. But i found both to be severely lacking in functionality and user-friendliness for my field staff. Is there a way to search for an address using an Address Locator? Is that something that will/should be in a future release of ArcPad? Thanks, Steve

There are no common fields between Parcels and Street Signs. So i can't do a join. My next step is to try a composite address locator built using a street centerline file and a parcel polygon. After that it's an intern 😉 What if you performed a spatial join of your points into the parcel polygons. No doubt you'll get multiple joins but from what you describe that's okay. Hope this helps.

Is there anyway to clip out StreetMap data for just a specific region for use in ArcPad 10.0.3? Thanks, Steve

I'm trying to find the nearest address for a series of points. I have a parcel layer i'm trying to use for addresses. I was able to use the Reverse Geocode (RG) function in ArcToolbox to get a start. However, i had to use an address locator based on a street centerline file. Upon inspection of the addresses, the addresses the RG found were linearly interpolated from the addresses in the "line" data from the street centerline file. Consequently, a lot of those addresses do not exist. I tried to create an address locator with Parcels, and then RG the points. Everytime i did this ArcMap crashed. I'm assuming you can't use an address locator built with polygons to RG. Any idea how i should go about doing this? I have roughly 40,000 points that need a closest address. Thanks, Steve

I am using ArcPad 10.02, and Streetmap 2010 on a Panasonic Toughbook with a built in GPS system. My field staff would like to search for an address, and the only way i can tell to do that is to use Streetmap. Well technically you could query my parcel layers and search for an address name and number. But i don't want to do that to my field staff. I've installed Streetmap, clipped out the area i want to use. I am able to do routing. However, there is no option to search for an address. Clicking the Find Address button only yields three options. 1. Convert Location to Stop 2. Convert Location to Barrier 3. Convert Location to PushPin And all of those are always grayed out. I've read the help, and it shows a Find Address option, but i don't have it. Any idea what i need to do? Thanks for any help. I sincerely appreciate it. Steve

As always, after i post the question i find the answer. If you use the Append command it allows you to add multiple shapefiles to a Feature Class in SDE.

Hello, I have 2,600 LiDAR contour shapefiles that i would like to "merge" into one Feature Class in SDE. All have the same schema. I found the "SIMPLE DATA LOADER" tool in SDE. However, that does not allow me to select multiple shapefiles, and i have to load each file individually. Is there a way to batch or load multiple shapefiles at once into a SDE Feature Class? Any help you can provide will save an intern from loading 2,600 files one at a time 😉 Thank you. Steve
