Hi, I have a SDE feature class with over 1 million features and I want to create a map document so that I can serve the data out through ArcGIS Server. Every time I tried to add the feature class as a layer on ArcMap, it took for ever to draw the map so I had to kill ArcMap and never be able to save the map as a map document. How can I add the feature class to ArcMap? If I need only a subset of the data, how can I filter the data before adding it to the map? Thanks, Chenglin

OK. I figured it out. I had to go to sde.gdb_extensiondatasets in Oracle database to find the representation that I had created and issue a delete command to delete the record

Hi, Here is what happened: I was learning how to use representation. So I created a representation on a feature class in my SDE database on Oracle. Once the representation is created, in ArcCatalog I looked into the attribute table of the feature class and saw two columns: ruleID and override. I right clicked on the columns and delete them. And then I went to the properties of the feature class and delete the representation from Representation tab. Now annoying things happened: * I restart ArcCatalog and open the properties of the feature class, navigate to Representation, nothing shows up in the list, which is normal because I created and then deleted the representation. But if I click new and create a new representation, the one that had been created and deleted would show up together with the new representation in the list. If I select the ghost representation and try to delete it, I get the Unable to delete representation notice. What's worse is that this ghost now shows up in all OTHER feature classes representations tab and I can't get rid of it! Even if I remove this feature class the ghost representation is still there.... What should I do? I am running on ArcGIS 10, with ArcSDE 9.3 and Oracle 11g. Thanks,

Hi, I am have difficulty to apply class extension to new feature class. I use VB.Net in Visual Studio to develop ArcGIS desktop customization under ArcView license. Here is the steps that I follow to apply class extension: 1. Add a new ArcGIS class to my project, implementing IClassExtension, IObjectClassExtension, IFeatureClassExtension. (See attachment for code. The code is completely generated by VS, I didn't change anything) 2. Create feature class using FeatureWorkspace.CreateFeatureClass() Here is the code to create feature class: Dim extUID As IUID = New UIDClass() extUID.Value = "{d2ae59fd-c1cd-47f1-8533-bc59a61f0aac}" 'ClassId of Class extension Dim FeatureClass As IFeatureClass = Me.FeatureWorkspace.CreateFeatureClass(FeatureClassName, FeatureFields, Nothing, extUID, esriFeatureType.esriFTSimple, ShapeFieldName, "") When I test my codes in VS, the feature class can be succssfully created. I expect EXTCLSID property of FeatureClass to be the extUID value but it appears as Nothing. I cannot figure out why the class extension cannot be applied to the feature class. Any thoughts? Thanks,

Thanks Neil! I am using IBufferConstruction.ConstructBuffers now. From the developer help topic for IBufferConstruction.Buffer: Compatibility method for clients wishing to replace useages of ITopologicalOperator::Buffer. This method does not use the properties exposed in IBufferConstructionProperties. If you want it to respect the buffer properties you have set, then you'll need to use one of the other methods on the interface.

Hi, All I want to do it create a buffer around a polyline with the buffer created on the right of the polyline. I used BufferConstructor and BufferCOnstructorProperties to do so but I am still getting a full polygon:mad:. Here is the code in VB.NET: Dim featureClass As IFeatureClass = GetFeatureClassFromShapefileOnDisk("R:\test", "testline") ' GetPolylines takes featureClass and returns IFeatureCursor that points to features in featureClass Dim FeatureCursor As IFeatureCursor = GetPolylines(featureClass) Dim feature As IFeature = FeatureCursor.NextFeature() While Not feature Is Nothing Dim featureShape As IGeometry = feature.Shape Dim BufferConstructor As IBufferConstruction = New BufferConstructionClass() Dim BufferConstructorProp As IBufferConstructionProperties = CType(BufferConstructor, IBufferConstructionProperties) BufferConstructorProp.SideOption = esriBufferConstructionSideEnum.esriBufferRight Dim featureBuffer As IPolygon = BufferConstructor.Buffer(featureShape, 0.01) feature = FeatureCursor.NextFeature() End While Any ideas? Thanks
