Thank you, Just discovered the geodb (Azure SQL) needs upgrading too as that is also on 10.8. This is only used by the Enterprise deployment for map services which, I think, is a registered database in the datastore. From the docs it looks like you upgrade the geodb after upgrading Enterprise with cloud builder does that sound right?

Thank you, So Esri recommended best practice for a deployment created by cloud builder is to upgrade using cloud builder? if so, I guess there is not much more I can do other than backup vm and snapshot os, then run the upgrade via cloud builder? thanks again

Thanks for that, would you know if this upgrade just modifies the installation (AGS,Portal, etc) on the VM (single in my case) and does not alter/add Azure components which would be hard to discover? I think high level, I am hoping going from 10.8 to 10.9.1 using cloud builder to perform the upgrade (as I think this is recommended/the only way?) will leave portal with all it's config/certificates etc functioning as before.

Thanks again Scott, that's helpful. I am only considering 10.8.1 due to the fear of breaking changes, but I would definitely prefer to go to that version.

Thanks Scott, we have been burnt taking 10.8 which was the short support version so I don't want to make that mistake again. Unfortunately I can't wait 2 months due to the end of support of 10.8 having crept up on us without realizing and also I am quite worried about too much changing so perhaps the only options are 10.8.1 or 10.9.1.

Hi, A while ago we deployed ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 (Single Machine) to Azure using Cloud builder, which now needs to be upgraded. This was a real problematic experience due to an issue where the installer would take longer than Azure would allow for scripts. Consequently we are rather nervous to perform this upgrade.. From Reading the documentation, it looks like we need to again use Cloud Builder to perform this upgrade as this is how it was originally installed. Although we can snapshot the OS disk before running, I am concerned Cloud Builder might modify existing Azure resource making rollback on error impossible. Does anyone have experience upgrading 10.8 using Cloud Builder than can offer some advice? Would it be safest to first go to 10.8.1, based on how close that is to 10.8 or is it more sensible to upgrade all the way up to 11 to really future proof? I have concerns that a lot may have evolved in that deployment and it may not be that straight forward and change resource in Azure too? Could any one offer any advice? Thanks

Hi, could I ask what Python 3 package you installed as we need to do this. Was it a full version or a cutdown version?

Just in case this helps anyone else, we successfully run the mitigation script today against Enterprise 10.8 hosted in Azure deployed using Cloud Builder. Thank you for all the work getting the script together so quickly.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply @RandallWilliams So can/should this be run before the 10.8.1 upgrade? We had a real tough time getting the actual Cloud Builder install to work. It had a bug where it crashed half way through and then needed to be re-run to complete. I think this was due to the installation taking longer than was allowed by the Azure ARM templates. Consequently I am very wary/worried of performing the upgrade. Does this reconfigure any other Azure resources or is the installation work performed solely on the VM if it's an upgrade? Thanks for any help

Good Afternoon, Thank you for all your hard work on this so far. On the information page it states the following: 'Out of an abundance of caution, Esri has created Log4Shell mitigation scripts that are strongly recommended to be applied to all installations of ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Server of any version of the software.' Also 'Customers are strongly encouraged to use the supplied scripts rather than waiting for additional patch availability.' We have a single-machine deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 hosted in Azure that was deployed using the Cloud Builder application. Could I please ask if the Esri created Log4Shell mitigation scripts will work on this deployment and if Esri also recommends this? Many thanks

Hi Jon, Thank you very much for your response. When I look at the SSL Certificate(s) on both Portal and Server (single tier), each one has an issuer value of the Azure VM url e.g. [vmname].internal.cloudapp.net so I assume this means Portal and Server are both using a self-signed cert? If this is the case, does it mean I would only need to look at renewing the certificate on the App Gateway https listener? Thanks again

Hi, thanks for responding. I hope I'm not getting confused between 10.7.1 and 10.8, but I 'think' when I added the certificate in Cloud builder on the first install it configured everything. My certificate is now due to expire and I'm not sure where or how to renew as there are a lot of components involved. Does that make sense?

Hi, we have ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 (single tier) running in Azure which was deployed using Cloud Builder. I can't find any Esri documentation on renewing the SSL Certificate on this deployment which I think is known as V2 using an Azure App Gateway. It looks like the documentation all relates to the older <10.8 deployments. Previously I know this quite involved, importing into Portal and Server but I wonder if they all work off self-signed now. From looking around in Azure Portal the only place I can see that might be correct is to upload a new (pfx) certificate in the HttpsEnterpriseDeploymentlistener. Can anyone provide any details or links on doing this? Thanks

Hi George, Thanks for the info on Service publishing, if/when we fully migrate to the cloud this will be useful At this point the Database will just be used for ArcGIS Enterprise so I guess we're going to need to test performance and also look at if/what services might absolutely need an Esri data store (like an EGDB) as network datasets just popped into my head Thank you
