I wouldn't hold your breath. When you can select by buffer you start to get into analysis territory and cut into Esri's profit. Maybe they'll add it to the Analysis widget and let you pay a per use service fee for that. You can use the Query widget to select by and apply a buffer, but you can't select by location using one feature layer to select other features, which is what I'd like to offer my app users.

In order to establish a trusted collaboration from an Enterprise Portal on my intranet to an Enterprise Portal on an external network, do I need to configure a port on my firewall to allow communication between the two Portals?

Unfortuntately, I can't. I'm working for a client on their municipal water system data and I'd have to get you approved by the client to use the data and you'd have to sign a release and all that. It's not worth the trouble. I'll explore other options to get the results I'm looking for. Sorry I can't help you troubleshoot this issue. Thanks for the effort though.

When I use the Split Lines At Points tool I get the following error: Split Lines Split point results in a zero length polyline. I click OK, then it seems to go into an infinite loop. The progress window says, "Splitting line 0 of 25. Splitting At Selected Points" and there's no progress for a good 15 minutes before I give up and have to go to Windows Task Manager to end the ArcMap task. The Cancel button is rendered inopperable when the Split tool is in it's infinite loop. Seen this before? Any tips. I don't know where the Split tool is finding cases where zero length polygons would be created. On a subset of my water main, and fittings I've done the following procedure to get to where I am now: I selected all of the 4" diameter and Asbestos Cement material water main features and merged them into one feature. Then I used the Feature Vertices to Points tool to create a new feature class containing all of the end points or dangles on the merged water main. I used the merged water main feature to select all the fitting point features it intersects. From that fitting point feature selection set I removed all of the end points of dangles which left me with all of the fitting features (i.e. junctions) that are not at the end of the merged water main feature I want to split. I started editing on the water main feature class. I even selected the water main layer in the TOC I want to split. I've tried this process with the merged water line feature selected and also unselected. I still get the zero length error noted above. Tips?

Nope didn't work. The tool won't allow me to differentiate between merges. Maybe I can modify the Merge Geometric Network Lines tool to merge all the selected mains at hydrants and valves, but not junctions, effectively "skeletonizing" the water mains to junctions.

Thanks for the response. I guess I should have been more specific in my original post. I'm looking for a tool that automates the process of "skeletonizing" the water mains. I want to programmatically merge all the water mains at hydrants and valves, but not at junctions. Actually, I just got an idea. I'm going to try it and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

It sounds to me like the "dots" and provinces are somehow sharing symbology. I'm not too familiar with the the base maps that ESRI provides and how the layers are structured, so I'm not sure I can help you figure this one out any further. Hopefully someone else will pick up where I left off. Good luck.

I think I'm not understanding what type of layers you're working with. What type of feature is "provinces"? Point? Polygon? I am assuming the attribute fields you described "production value" and "random value" are attributes of the "provinces" feature class?

I assume that your feature class is provinces and it includes the two attribute fields production values and random values. In order to symbolize according to the values of both fields you need to open the provinces layer properties and go to the Symbology tab. Select "Multiple Attributes" and the default "Quantity by category" parameters should appear. Select production values as your first "Value" parameter, then choose random values as your second "Value" paramter. Next, click on the variation by "Symbol Size" button. A new window will appear, enter the "Value" field you want the size of the symbols to be based upon. For this example I'll assume you want to use random values. The default should suggest breaks based on Jenks model so in your case I assume it'll pick 4 classes (1-4). You can play around with the settings to get the right variation in symbol size. Once you're satisfied close that window. Next you'll choose a color ramp from the Color Scheme bars and then right click on the Color Scheme bar and choose properties. Set your one color at white and your two color at black. Click OK. Now you'll click the Add All Values button. They should come in order beginning with your lowest value in the production values attribute and be colored accordingly. If it doesn't work out the way you expected at first play around with it until you get what you're looking for. Of course, a less elegant way to accomplish your goal is to use the Categories > Uniques Values, Many Fields approach. Select production values and random values as your attribute fields. Then, add all values and edit each combination's individual symbolology applying the graduated color and size rules manually. If this doesn't work for you, you can try other symbology options to get across your data's message. Hope this helps.

So, I've got a [MATERIAL] field that has a coded value domain associated with it in the geodatabase. The domain is like: Code Description CI Cast Iron AC Asbestos Cement ... How can I get the code value to use in my label expression?

C_Martin, I'm starting to work on doing the same thing. I looked at the script mmiller suggested but it's not going to work for me. Also, my attributes don't allow me to go the multipart and explode option. Did you find a simple solution to your problem? If so, can you share your solution with us on this thread? Thanks.

I'm looking to combine water "pipe segment"s into larger line segments that I'm calling water "pipe"s. I have a geometric network for our water system based on the ESRI Water Utilities data model. The water "pipe segment"s I refer to above are the individual features that make up our wPressurizedMain feature class. I have a wFitting feature class that contains points that connect the end of one "pipe" to an intersecting "pipe". These "pipe"s contain one or more smaller "pipe segment"s. The "pipe segment"s connect to each other at a valve or hydrant, but not at wFitting points. Is there an existing tool or a simple a way that I can combine the "pipe segment"s into "pipe"s? Each "pipe" would begin and end at a wFitting feature. Thanks, Tyler
