Hi George, Why do you think it s taking months for ESRI to provide this add-on license? We have been a customer for more than a decade and I do not remember a case which had been resolved more than a few days time. Is it normal for this Power BI case or should I push my local distributor to get it resolved asap. It has been a month now since we made the request? Thanks, Tuna

I am seeking the possibility of creating an "Elevation Profile Widget" which uses the high resolution elevation model I have in the server. The tool created by RobertScheitlin__GISP is great but I need to use the 1m elevation data of my own to have more accuracy. A few years ago I tried to publish a geoprocessing service (created with model builder) to use in the portal as I was able to do with some others but failed for elevation profile. A few years past and hoping that a solution for this has been found. At least an idea could be given. Thanks, Tuna

Unfortunately, I still need to work with ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS 10.3.1 versions. And I am desperately trying to find a way to create decent web scenes. ArcGIS Pro does not publish scenes to servers older than 10.4. And when I share a service from ArcMap, add the service as a map image layer to portal and add this layer to the scene, there are a couple of issues: 1. Labels stay north oriented and do not turn as you change the point of view 2. The service beomes a single layer. So users will not be able to turn the layers on and off. Is there a proper way to use services that are not published from ArcGIS Pro? If not, what is the purpose of having a scene option in Portal for ArcGIS 10.3.1? Thanks, Tuna

I know but unfortunately we do not currently have a maintenance contract and 1.2 is the newest version we can have.

Any solution found to this problem? I am having a similar problem in my Pro 1.2. I can add a layer to my 3D scene which I already created but I can not create a new scene or a new project from scratch. I can navigate in the old project with no problem but can not add another elevation source. A year ago when I first created this project there were no such issues.

Hi Derek, We bought a 12 month Portal For ArcGIS Up To 50 Users license last October when the version was 10.2. As the Portal is now included the Arcgis for Server with the 10.3 release we are looking for the best option to proceed as we are approaching to the end of that 12 months. We have ArcGIS for Server Advance Workgroup license and all products have already been updated to 10.3. Will we have the option to extend the 50 user portal license for additional 12 months while keeping ArcGIS Server in Workgroup license? If we do not want to extend it will we be able to continue using the portal with 10 named users coming from the Server Workgroup license? Do the desktop licenses have to be under maintenance in order to provide named users to portal? I mean we have 4 desktop licenses in 10.3 version and we are planning to extend the maintenance for 2 of them. In this case will the total number named users be 12 or 14 (while 10 coming from server)? If we need to buy additional named user licenses, is 50 still the minimum number to purchase or can we buy 5 or 10? Thank you.

Thank you Jian. At least now I am in the correct path to solve the problem. And probably this tool will help me to solve a few more issues. Since I am not familiar with the geometry service, I need some tips to move on. I have been reading the resources and issues related to the geometry service and understood what it does. But I am still not clear on "how to use" part. I found the REST Services Directory and thought I could make an adjustment in "Project" which will then take the points entered to the map and project it before sending to a widget. But seemingly it works a bit differently. It was easy to set the WKID of Web Mercator as Input and that of UTM Z38N to Output but got stuck on the "Geometries". In the examples I found specific coordinates are entered to this part but as my tool will use a random point entered on the map I have no idea how to fill "Geometries". The services directory may not be the right point to begin with since there are several examples where geometry service is used within Python codes. So I may need to put a similar piece of script after exporting my model to Python code. The ArcGIS help pages explains the function of the geometry service very well but does not show how to use it that good. I would really appreciate if you could give me some tips. Thanks, Tuna

Distances differ when measured in different projection systems. It is for sure. Bu what I am currently facing seems to me kind of a bug. A simple model that uses the Point Distance tool.. Finds out the settlements within 10km distance of a point.. The version on the left uses a parameter which allows locating the input point when the model is run. The one on the right uses the point feature within the layer and executes the model without an input point parameter. When the model on the left is run, the very same point is located and the model is executed. Results are of course the same in ArcGIS Desktop. The projection system of layers are UTM Z38N and varying frame projections confirmed to have no effect on the result. All results match manual measurements in UTM. Both models are then published as a geoprocessing service and this time run from ArcGIS Server again in ArcGIS Desktop environment. Results are still the same. Then the geoprocessing services are added as WAB widgets to a web application in Portal for ArcGIS. While the model on the right continues to give the same result, the one on the left starts to calculate distances in Web Mercator causing 20% to 30% differences. I know the maps in the portal use Web Mercator but; 1) Why the projection of the map effects the model on the left but not on the right? Same model, same layers. 2) Why the projection of the data frame does no effect on any of these models in ArcGIS Desktop? If the explanation is "the projection comes from the map when the input is a parameter but comes from the layer when the input is not a parameter but this is only the case in Portal for ArcGIS but not ArcGIS Desktop(with a Web Mercator projection)" then this is definitely a bug.

I need to provide elevation information in the maps of our portal and the easiest way seemed to be including an elevation map layer and somehow display pixel (elevation) values in a pop-up window when clicked. But I couldn't find a way to enable a popup window for a raster layer. Then I added the terrain layer from Elevation Layers group but adding this layer to a portal map made the map unavailable to portal users other than myself. Any ideas to include elevation information to the maps?

We were unable to define the reason behind the problem but could solve it by just trying the same in the server where AG Server and Portal for AG is running. We defined the very same geocoding service and did not receive any warning. Normally we were trying to add this geocoding service from another pc with a portal admin account but receiving the "The geocode service URL you have entered is invalid or inaccessible." error.

Hi again Jake, We now have an organizational account and I was able to add the layer as an item to our portal. One problem is the layer asks me to sign in to online each time I want to display it on the map. Is this because the layer is not available for the users of the portal unless they have an organizational subscription? In other words, we have 50 members in the portal but a limit of 5 users for our organizational account. Will this mean we 45 of our users will not be able to view and use the elevation layer? Thanks.

Thanks Jake. This is where I get a bit confused. The accounts! I thought I was logging in with organizational account but seemingly I wasn't. We have Server and Portal products and we do not normally use AGOL that is why I am not that confident when I log in to ArcGIS online or my esri. Anyway, to come straight to what I need; I would like to use one ore two of these elevation services within my Portal for ArcGIS product. Is it possible? Thanks.

I receive the "The layer, Terrain, cannot be added to the map because you do not have privileges to use this layer." error when I try to add any of the services from "Elevation Layers" group to My map in AGOL. As described the Access and Use Constraints the service must be available for users with an ArcGIS organizational account. Well I have that and I don't see what the problem could be.. Any ideas to overcome this issue?
