Hi, I'm having trouble getting the Export to CAD with attributes working. I've read some instructions on how to do this. I know I need the seed file to export the attribute data into a CAD block, but I does not work. It must be something simple, because I'm pretty sure we have done everything that was stated on ESRI's website, but the feature class attributes do not show up on the CAD. We started with a very simple project the feature class has one field in it "TestField" and so does the CAD Block Seed file. I've attached the seed file, and feature class we are working with. Perhaps we are just missing something very simple. Thank you. I actually have all that. It should be in the GIS Feature class that I attached to this thread. Not sure where I went wrong. This seems like it should be pretty simple, but it does not work.

Gotcha, I've felt this way about our SDE setup for a while. Something about it just didn't sit well with me. I think this will be a long process to transition our GIS users over to a proper SDE Database, but I think it will be well worth it once it's in place. Thank you for your help.

Oh boy, I have a lot of work to do. Thank you for the guidance. Unfortunately I have more questions now. Lets assume, I have some data layers that were created with one of the data layer owner accounts, and people are using the data (with non owner accounts). If I edited it with a owner account would it override any locks they might have created by viewing it? So should all of my data feature layers (that do not have relationships) just be in the root of the database? or is there a better way to organize them than with datasets?

How many users do you have connecting as SDE? In an ideal world, the the number of users that hold the SDE password is quite limited. The SDE user should not ever own spatial data, and should only be used to administer the ArcSDE installation. Once a session is killed, it cannot ever be restarted. Killing all sessions is generally a rare occurance -- I wouldn't recommend using 'sdemon -o kill -t all' except under exceptional conditions. - V Let me see if I understand this correctly. The SDE user should not be used to do normal GIS tasks like, building map documents and such? Should each GIS user have their own username and password and work from the SDE that way? The reason I need to kill the session is because there is a lock on the one dataset we are using and I cannot register it as versioned, and it is saying the lock is coming from the user "SDE" 4 times. I'm assuming this is because people have it open on their maps. In the past we would just restart the server, but I know restarting a server is supposed to be a last resort, so I'm trying to come up with a better solution to our problem. Thanks

quick question: When I want to start it back up, do I use the start command? also how do I find out the correct PID? or should I just use "all" for -t? We only have one SQL Server so "all" should be fine correct?

Hi, I'm having an issue with SDE. As of now we have a lock on our SDE database that i cannot figure out who it is. It tells me the user is "SDE", of course this could be a number of people. Is there a way to disconnect the user "SDE"? I know it will knock off more than one user, but I am alright with that.

Hi, I'm having an issue with my web map. I have the editing feature enabled, but when I try to add a point to the map, it says "Add feature failed". However I am able to edit existing points successfully. I have another layer that I've used with testing and that one works fine. The only difference I can think of between that one and this one is that that I have this new one move the edits to base when I registered it as versioned. So that way the edits show up in SQL Server. Could that cause this issue? Thanks. **UPDATE** I tried unregistering it as versioned and registering as versioned again without checking the box to move edits to base, and that did not help. I'm relieved actually, I kind of need to be able to view the changed in SQL Server. Any thoughts are appreciated. I did have a thought however. I have some of the fields not allow null values with no default value. Could this be the issue?

When I try to cache a base map doing it this way it comes in looking all weird. It'll take the map cut off some areas, and I'll have duplicate tiles somewhere completely different on the map. Any idea what causes this? Thanks. **EDIT** I would also like to mention that the map displays perfectly when I used it as a dynamic base map. It seems as though when I cache it is distorts everything.

Randell, This works for base maps by just giving them the same label in the main config.xml file. Thank you for the reply, but I need this to work with the Operational Layers. Is this possible?

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to link two services together in ArcGIS View For Flex. What I mean is I want the layers to toggle together. So if service 1 and service 2 are linked, if I turned off (or on) service 1, service 2 would also turn off (or on) or Vice Versa. Thanks.

Is there any way to rotate a map in flex viewer? It's one of the biggest reasons people don't like to use web maps at my place of work. Last I heard the answer was "no" but that was a while ago so I was just wondering if any one knows if it is available now, if there is plans to implement it eventually, if there is some round about "hackish" kind of way to get this done, etc... Or if it is possible to do this with the Flex API... Thank you.

The web help is great place to start. Here's the first page, just work your way down. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/help/arcgis_server_dotnet_help/index.html#/What_is_a_version/009300001612000000/ If you have access to an ArcSDE geodatabase and the ability to view the system tables (i.e. Sql Server Mgmt. Studio, Sql Developer) you can create some data, create versions, edit, reconcile, post and then look at what the tables are doing. It's a good way to understand the back-end processes which can translate into better version management. Also, check out the geodatabase blog... http://blogs.esri.com/Dev/blogs/geodatabase/archive/tags/Versioning/default.aspx Beautiful! Thank you all very much.
