Maybe i wasn't clear in my question- the MXD's still open while i run this code. my propose was to save me to click on "save" buttun in all the open MXD's by my self- i wanted the python will do it. so this what i did with this new row that James send me-there still an error.

I enter this line in: mapdoc.save()
arcpy.env.overwriteOutput = True And got this error: IOError: MapDocObject: Unable to save. Check to make sure you have write access to the specified file and that there is enough space on the storage device to hold your document.

Hi everyone, When i try to export map to jpg file in ArcView 10.3 (in the layout view), the "write world file" is blocked. How can i solved this problem? i must export all the map elements in the layout view into world file. For clarity, i asked it in Write World File option blocked when exporting Layout View in ArcGIS for Desktop? - Geographic Information Systems Stack… Thanks in advanced.

Hi, i try to sort layers in the TOC, in ascending or by name alphbetical with this code: import arcpy
mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(r"D:\desktop\Project\project.mxd")
df = arcpy.mapping.ListDataFrames(mxd)[0] # Assuming one data frame
group_lyr = [lyr for lyr in arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd) if lyr.isGroupLayer][0] # The temp group layer should be the only one
lyr_names = sorted(lyr.name for lyr in arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd) if lyr.isFeatureLayer)
for name in lyr_names:
arcpy.mapping.MoveLayer(df, group_lyr, arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd, name)[0], "BEFORE")
print name +' sorted'
arcpy.mapping.RemoveLayer(df, group_lyr) and got: >>>
land use sorted
river sorted
>>> but the TOC do't sorted. For clarity, i saw this question in arcgis 10.0 - Arc GIS 10.1 - How to sort Layers ascending at TOC in "List by drawing order" - Geographic Information Sys… I work with arc view 10.3. I know it possible with extension, but i have no extensions. Is it possible to do it with python?

Expanding on my previous question Remove Layers , i try to remove layers from mxd's (in ArcMap 10.3, Python 2.7.8), that don't appear in the data frame. The layers located in different disk drivers and in different folders and sub folders and each layer has different path orientation (right to left- different language from English). Only the MXD's located in "D:\desktop\Project" I using this code: # -*- coding: cp1255 -*-
import arcpy,os
from arcpy import env
env.workspace = r"D:\desktop\Project"
for mxdname in arcpy.ListFiles('*.mxd'):
print mxdname
mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(os.path.join(env.workspace, mxdname))
df = arcpy.mapping.ListDataFrames(mxd, "Layers")[0]
for lyr in arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd, "" ,df):
print str(lyr.getExtent())
print lyr.name
if lyr.getExtent() != None:
if df.extent.disjoint(lyr.getExtent()):
arcpy.mapping.RemoveLayer(df, lyr)
print u'Removed '+unicode(lyr) + ' lyr'
mxd.save()
del mxd For clarity, i asked it in arcpy - Remove layers in sub folders using python- path orientation - Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange
