I have found an error message in the method with Python IDLE program as the following. When this message appears, some data sources are in an external drive which is not available at this time. Is it the reason for this error message? ============== Error message (from here) ============================== Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/Python27/ArcGIS10.2/Scripts/PrintSourceFiles3.py", line 10, in <module> print "Data Source: " + lyr.dataSource File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.2\arcpy\arcpy\arcobjects\_base.py", line 78, in _get (attr_name, self.__class__.__name__)) NameError: The attribute 'dataSource' is not supported on this instance of Layer. ============== Error message (up to here) ==============================

Thank you Christian for your reply. I have tried to follow your methods, however, still cannnot find the Output. For the Python window in ArcGIS, Output could not displayed in the same window. Please check the image. I have applied a few methods into the parenthesis of "mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument" line: ("CURRENT") and with/without r, ("C:\ArcGIS\example2.mxd") and (r"C:\ArcGIS\example2.mxd"). On the contrary, for the Python IDLE program, Output was displayed in another window. I will use this methods for a while. I appreciate any further advice for improvement, including solutions for the Python window in ArcGIS.

Hi Christian Thank you for your reply. If that script works, for the MXD file with several source files will show multiple source files in the Output. I am a little new in Python script. I open python window: "Geoprocessing" - "Python", and copy your script lines by lines with one of MXD files on PC. My question this time is where the Output is displayed. I check some windows, and could not find the Output. I opened python window from the python.exe file directly and try to run the script in the window with "File Edit Format Run Options Windows Help" menu, but could not find Output file with "Run" - "Run module". In this case, an error message is displayed in another window as the following, and this method does not seem to be correct. Correct method may be conducted in the Python window in ArcGIS as the above. If this is correct, my question is where the Output is found. Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/Python26/Scripts/print_source_file01.py", line 1, in <module> import arcpy ImportError: No module named arcpy This may be a basic question, and look for a reply. Thanks in advance. Yoshi

Hello I want to get a list of source files in the table of contents (TOC) with ArcGIS 10.2. Source files are displayed in TOC with "List by source" mode. I want to get simply the list of source files. Moreover, source files of vector files are displayed in the TOC, but source files of raster files and tables (csv, xls, etc.) are not displayed in TOC, and only can found by checking the properties of the files. Please advise me if you know the methods to obtain the source file list of TOC. Thanks in advance. Yoshi

Hi Melita Thank you for your advice, the problem could be fixed by changing the coordination systems. I thought the shape file is newly developed and incorporated into the project, therefore, I did not care about the coordination system setting. But changing the coordination systems to GDA1994, the points could be displayed on the map. Yoshi

Maybe basic question on the unit of coordination system, m or degree? I have made one shapefile of points with FID, Shape*, Latitude and Longitude. I tried to show these points in a map, however, the points are not displayed. I checked the property of the shapefile and found that the unit of Extent in Source tab of Layer properties are "m", besides the actual data in the shapefile is "degree". Please find the attachment in detail. I have found similar questions in the forum, but the answers did not address this problem. https://community.esri.com/message/232479?sr=search&searchId=26bbc7ee-40bb-427d-b91e-041f349b345a&searchIndex=0#232479 Thank you for your answers in advance. I'm afraid to confuse the thread: I've tried "add-in" for ArcGIS 10 to have sketch method of 9.3, but it could not be installed even after re-starting ArcGIS. This is not a question, but I post this information supposing might be help to think about the conditions of the original question.

Thanks leonardlluz, that's true. This problem has been solved in another thread: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/99731-How-can-XY-coordinates-be-shown-in-the-attribute-table-of-a-point-shape-file?p=354527#post354527 Thanks Yoshi

I am ArcGIS 10.1, student evaluation version. I would like to know how I can see the table of the raster file in the ??preview? tab. I hope this questions is appropriate for this sub-forum. I am trying to use a raster data of land use, which have been downloaded from the government website (attached). This is land use raster data. I have converted the raster file to polygon file using the Conversion tools. There are four fields in the attribute table of the polygon file (FID, Shape, ID and GRIDCODE), but necessary information has been seemed to be missed. According to the instruction by the officer, there should be other fields of some codes. I have contacted the government section and communicated for a while, and it has been found that some fields might be missed in the conversion process from the raster to polygon. I have also found that there might be some differences between the instruction by the officer and my experiences with the student evaluation version. Therefore, I am wondering the differences are problems of the student evaluation version. The government officer has instructed me to connect to the raster file folder with ArcCatalog. Then, see table in the ??preview? window. However, when I select ??preview? tab in the window, I was asked whether I would like to create pyramids or not. When I select ??no?, a map image has been appeared. Even when I select ??yes? with pyramid resembling technique ??Nearest Neighbour?, and Pyramid compression type ??Default?, a map image has appeared, however, at the bottom of the preview window, only ??geography? can be selected, and ??table? does not appeared. The government officer has instructed me that I can see the field table when I select "Table" at the bottom of the preview window. I would like to know how I can see the table of the raster file in the ??preview? tab. I would be glad if you have any helps to solve this problem.
