The next update of ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App and ArcGIS Community Analyst is planned for June 14, 2023. Below are the planned updates. Please note that all planned updates are subject to change; thus, please check back to stay apprised of the latest news regarding the upcoming release.

Our What's New blog article and documentation will provide a comprehensive list of enhancements.

Updated interface using Calcite Design System

By implementing the Calcite Design System, the ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App interface now has a more modern and user-friendly appearance. Alongside this visual upgrade, several enhancements have been made to elevate your overall experience, including enhanced performance, responsiveness, usability, and accessibility.

New color-coded maps workflow

The redesigned color-coded maps workflow includes improvements for setting an analysis extent, exploring data, analyzing the results, and saving layers to use again.

  • We have revamped the geography section in the workflow pane to enhance the mapping experience. By default, the analysis extent is now set to the United States. When you initiate an analysis using a specific area, improvements have been made to keep the legend value and Results pane fixed. This ensures the visualization remains easily interpretable as you pan and zoom across the map. In cases where the analysis extent is set to the current map extent, the dynamic legend is added for better exploratory analysis.
  • You can now map lower-level geographies, such as census tracts and block groups, at a larger map extent. This enhancement allows for broader coverage, accommodating up to 10,000 features or geographies.
  • The introduction of a new Results pane in the interface offers three distinct views, allowing you to delve deeper into the data. This Results pane seamlessly interacts with the map, enhancing your level of understanding.
    • The Summary results tab presents valuable information such as the average value, top five, bottom five, and trends related to the selected variable. A scatter plot is also displayed when a second variable is added.
    • The Histogram results tab showcases the minimum, median, and maximum values of the variable in the analysis extent.
    • A Table results tab is available, allowing for easy export to Excel.

New infographics

  • Standard infographics:
    • The new Childhood and Female Equity infographic has been added. It includes information about working status, housing affordability, poverty ratio, and poverty status.
    • The new Housing Market Characteristics infographic includes various housing data about home value, affordability, and homeowners' demographics.
    • The Community Profile infographic is renamed to Community Summary.
  • Infographics in the gallery (Advanced license only):
    • The new Customer Purchasing Behaviors infographic provides valuable information about online shopping and spending habits.
    • The new Tapestry Poster infographic includes Esri LifeMode Groups and Dominant Tapestry Segment.
    • The new Environmental Preferences infographic includes various environmental data about behaviors and spending data related to environmental concerns.
    • The Coronavirus Impact Planning infographic is moved to the infographic gallery.

Improved data browser search

The enhanced semantic search functionality now comprehends and interprets natural language, enabling it to identify key and related words. In the previous version, only exact matches were returned, leading to no search results when entering a phrase like "health and wellness." However, a wide range of related variables are now presented in the improved data browser search. This includes variables such as "Healthy Lifestyles," "Health Food," "Health Insurance," and numerous other variables associated with health and wellness.

Data enhancements

We will update the following data in the June release:

  • U.S. 2023 Updated Demographics, Tapestry Segmentation, Consumer Spending, Market Potential, Business Summary, and 2017-2021 ACS data in 2023 geography.
    • Because the Demographics and Housing Characteristics (DHC) and Detailed DHC 2020 Census is not yet available, you have the flexibility to use three data sources with this release: Esri 2023, Esri 2022, and Esri 2021. The Esri 2023 and 2022 data sources are updated to the 2020 Census-based geography, and the Esri 2021 is based on the 2010 Census.
    • Geography changes.
    • New variables: Socioeconomic Status Index (SEI), Index, Ratios of Income Inequality, Households in Income Tiers for 2023 and 2028, additional Historical Time Series variables, labor force variables, ACS poverty index, Market Potential variables, etc.
  • Global data: Japan Advanced dataset from Esri Japan and Netherlands Advanced dataset from 4orange.
  • Michael Bauer Research data for 26 countries and regions.
  • Global points of interest (POI) data from Foursquare.
  • Business data from Data Axle and SafeGraph.
Additional attribute fields, such as affiliated organizations, brands, business types, etc., are now available in POI Search using Data Axle.
  • Updated Crime Indexes to 2023 (vintage 2023A from AGS) and available in 2023 geographic boundaries
  • USA Traffic Counts (Kalibrate).

Language support

ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App and ArcGIS Community Analyst now support Spanish.

ArcGIS Experience Builder: Business Analyst widget enhancements & improvements

  • When connected to a map widget, the workflow mode allows you to add a site using a point site and draw a polygon.
  • Auto-responsive view for infographics makes it more accessible across different devices.

When will the widget be updated from the Australian ABS 2016 data to ABS 2020 data? - this was the last census in Australia.
