We are pleased to announce the release of Collector for ArcGIS v17.0.3 on the iOS and Windows platforms today. The Android platform will be following shortly with a release in October.

Here are the top 3 key features of this release:

1. Passing collection information through the URL scheme
When using the custom URL scheme to open Collector through another app, a website, or an email, you can now include information to start a collection. Pass information about the layer to add a feature to, as well as particular attributes and the values to assign to them. This improves integration with Workforce for ArcGIS as well as 3rd party app integration coming with CityWorks.

2. New 95 percent confidence interval setting

When doing data collection, Collector allows you to specify the accuracy you require to use the GPS to collect locations. By default, accuracy is calculated using RMS, however government agencies like the USFS and BLM require accuracy be calculated using a 95 percent confidence interval. We are now providing this option.

3. Use Managed App Configuration with ArcGIS Enterprise
Streamline your app deployment by pushing the URL of your ArcGIS Enterprise portal through your mobile device management (MDM). When your users open the app, they'll see the OAuth screen from your portal.

In addition to these new features, there are a number of bug fixes and improvements that have been made.

Please refer to our What's New section of the documentation site for the full list of updates.

What's new—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS

Download through My Esri

If you want to deploy Collector on Windows devices without using Windows Store, you can now download a Windows installer through My Esri.

Related to custom URL schemes, please add both box:// and boxapp:// schemas to your whitelist of apps Collector is able to integrate with! This is already enabled with GIS Explorer and I would appreciate this being enabled on Collector as well! I was hoping this was going to be included on yesterday's update, is there any way this can be pushed up in the near term?

Thank you!

Eric-

Thanks for your feedback.  We'll look at adding support for Box integration schemes in an upcoming release of Collector.  Do you just use Box within the popup as an attribute list, or something you'd also make use of in the custom popup as well?

Do we need to have a valid security certificate to connect to my Portal via https? I used to get a warning but was fine as long as I accepted the warning but now I cannot connect to my portal via https.

Doug, thank you for the prompt reply!

Specifically, at this time I am looking for deep-linking capabilities within the pop-up supported out of the box for Collector. Workflow would be as follows: open Collector, data loads, click on the data, data table pops-up in the out of the box pop-up, deep-link attribute is clickable in the out of the box pop-up, then all I'd need is to click on the deep-link and it takes me to my desired location.

Hi Maria-

Yes, you will need a valid security certificate to connect to services over SSL.  Collector (among other apps) are adhering to stricter security guidelines in this regard. Collector on Windows also enforces a valid certificate. This same restriction will be in place on Android when Collector 17.0.3 is released.

maytenieves‌ looks like iOS 11 may have changed the certificate requirements somewhat.  Go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings and make sure to enable full trust for your self-signed cert.

Thanks. I am still on iOs 10.3.3.

Doug, is there any plan to continue support for organizations who have deployed their Enterprise and webadaptors behind a firewall and use VPN to enforce security? This has been how we deployed our environment, and for the reasons stated above we can no longer access our portal from Collector as of the last update. To my knowledge, you can not obtain a CA certificate for services behind a firewall as the certifying authority has no method to verify the domain. We've tried trusting the self certified domain certificate on our iOS devices, but without any success.

Hi Robert,

We had to purchase a GoDaddy cert using our domain to accomplish this.

Hello Maria, I seem to be in a similar fix as I keep having a dialog "The server you are trying to  connect to cannot be verified". We are in the mid of a key project which has deployed 200 tablets running collector for data collection, just to let you know how inconvenient this update is. Please will you be kind to let me know how to get around this. Possibly a step approach will be very well appreciated. I humbly await on your feedback. My email is: gbmarfo@gmail.com

Hi Robert. Have you tried installing the server certificate on your devices? That worked for me.

We did not install the certificate on our mobile devices. I'm not familiar with that workflow, and was unsure how to deploy it successfully in an environment with almost a hundred mobile devices. I'll take any input you have, as I am always open to new ideas.

The issue we were having had to do with our IIS settings. ESRI helped to identify the problem and then I worked with our IT staff to come up with a suitable configuration strategy. We are up and running and trying several new apps now including Workforce and Survey123.

Team, two items I wanted to bring up for reference:

  1. When viewing attachments on v17.0.3 in iOS 11, what I presume are the "(navigate) back" and "share" buttons do not display at the top left and top right of the window, despite being interactive. All I see is a white ribbon at the top of the page.
    1. Would you please clarify if this is a known bug and if you'd be able to resolve? For now, I plan to bring this up to our users on how to navigate if they run into this issue.
  2. After I removed maps from AGOL then managed the data in Collector to remove the downloaded maps, Collector shut down without prompt numerous times when I tried to access the app. Closing the app manually and restarting my phone did not resolve the issue. Each time I opened the app, Collector closed itself almost immediately. I was unable to log myself out of the app manually.
    1. I resolved by deleting the app from my device and reinstalling.
    2. While this may have been an anomaly, I wanted to bring to your attention.

Where would I find this on My Esri exactly? It isn't showing up under Products or Apps (or Product Components or ISO...).

FAQ: How do I download Collector for ArcGIS without access to Google Play or the Windows Store?

Thanks Dan.

Not a huge deal, but is there any reason why some applications are found in the My Esri / My Organizations / Products / Apps downloads and some are found on the downloads site you linked? I remember this confusing split to get ArcPad from the downloads site, while ArcGIS for Windows Mobile was on My Esri portal.
