Charts in Dashboard allow you to turn off the axis labels.  This is useful when the categories have long names and you are sorting them by count anyway.

The Chart widget in EB does not have this feature.  Should be easy to add.  Thanks.

Hi @KevinMayall ,

Thanks for you feedback. We can consider this requirement. But if the axis is turned off, the readers cannot recognize what category a bar is represent to easily, unless they hover for the label.  If the categories have long names you can actually set the character limit in axis setting, but so far in ExB you have to at least have one character to identify the category of each symbol.

Thanks,

Wei

@WeiYing1  Thanks for the reply.  Yes, this is exactly the scenario.  I have over 20 facilities displayed on a map and also show them in column charts with a numeric attribute.  There is no feasible way to display the facility names in such a chart.  The names are not really relevant as the point of the chart is to show the distribution of values in the numeric field (largest to smallest).  If the user wants to know which facility is the largest/smallest, they just hover over the column.  They don't need to scan for a particular facility (if they did, I would provide a List widget).  The character limit is not very useful in this scenario, probably better when there are fewer facilities.

In any case, if it's good for Dashboard, it must be good for ExB!  For now, I have embedded a dashboard in ExB, but I would have rather gone pure ExB.

@KevinMayall Thanks for detailed explanation. We will take into consideration.

Agree with Kevin - in my case the attributes are far too long to display so I make the label text white and then write fixed text over the top. This obviously only works when your categories are always going to be the same.

So improvements for labelling in the chart widget in general would be:

1. Ability to turn axis labels off

2. Ability to edit label category text

3. Ability to wrap the text (on my pie charts the text extends outside the boundary of the widget box because the text values are so long)

4. On pie charts ability to label only count without need the attribute value as well

5. More text style functionality eg halo

6. More flexibility on Title spacing and position. I also turn this off and write a fixed text box over the top because it takes up too much space in the widget box.
