I've been dealing with this problem as well. The best workaround I found was to snip the map with an external program or Print Screen, then paste into a Word document at the orientation and size paper you want; then drag the image to the desired size. Then use the Header & Footer for map notes, title etc. You can also crop the image in Word to get rid of extra screen stuff. It's not ideal but the print function for AGX is not great (and, as my post above, I can't figure how to get the notes to show in anything other than a print screen or save as presentation slide).
We also created an image for the Legend and layer that on top of the Word document (though you can also do that in AGX).
