Calculated expression to pull data in from a spreadsheet

Is it possible to to use a pull data type function to auto calculate values in Field Maps forms from data in an Excel spreadsheet. My users have a list of more than 100 species in a spreadsheet and essentially need to pick from that list. It's clearly to long to use as a choice list with a drop down option, so is there a calculated expression you can use to pull the data in from the spreadsheet.

Good afternoon and thank you for your question. While you can't use a calculated expression to pull data from a spreadsheet, there is a filter function in the combo box for smart forms. Even if you have over 100 options, users can utilize the filter at the top of the page to filter out choices and make the list much smaller and then they can make their final selection from the shortened list. You may also want to look at contingent values and see if that would be a good fit for your workflow.

You should create a domain of all the species from your sheet in a blank point layer in ArcGIS Pro and then a 2nd domain of species categories for your species list (family or genus depending on the relatedness of your target species), once you have those two domains built, then create contingent values grouping each species into is respective category, then you publish that as a web layer in AGOL. In the designer you'll see your super and subcategories and you'll be able to filter further if needed.
