How to create a Cognos Esri report?

Hi all

We are currently using Crystal Reports as our ArcGIS reporting tool.

These are our questions:
- We would like to know how we can switch to Cognos from Crystal
- is there any tool that exports a Crystal report to a Cognos Report
- does Cognos need a specific set up or configuration to run with an SDE Oracle Geodatabase
- do we need to install any specific Esri component for Cognos in our desktop

Hello jsn,

It sounds as though you are looking for a reporting tool specifically for ArcGIS, in which case I would suggest using the ArcGIS Report Wizard and Designer. 

IBM Cognos business intelligence software is not aimed at creating reports for ArcGIS, whereas Crystal Reports (now replaced by the ArcGIS report engine) were previously used specifically for that purpose in ArcGIS Desktop.  IBM Cognos reports are created to display business data and Esri Maps for IBM Cognos allows the business data to be displayed and interacted-with geographically in those reports. 

If I have misunderstood your question, please do not hesitate to follow-up and clarify what you are looking for.  With regards to specific questions about IBM Cognos configuration and report import/export options, those questions might be better addressed by contacting customer support at IBM Cognos.
