I am new to using the Generate Spatial Weights Matrix tool for a hotspot analysis I am working on for my thesis. It says it successfully generated. however when I click on the output it says can not open file. Is this normal and if so how do you see the weights that were made to make sure it is correct?

Thanks!

links again... Generate Spatial Weights Matrix—Help | ArcGIS Desktop

and How Generate Spatial Weights Matrix works—Help | ArcGIS Desktop

which states...

The spatial weights matrix (SWM) file is written using a little endian binary file format. For more information about how the SWM file is read and written to disk, right-click the Generate Spatial Weights Matrix tool and choose Edit. This will display the Python source code for this tool. The code for reading an SWM file is in the WeightsUtils.py file, which is installed in your <ArcGIS>/ArcToolbox/Scripts folder.

So I am not sure what you mean by making sure it is right?  Unless you mean...
