We need the ability to specify break locations in the ArcGIS Pro Network Analyst Vehicle Routing Problem model.

Currently, the Vehicle Routing Problem only places breaks at points along the route, with no allowance for where the break might have to occur.

In our model:

  • Lunch must occur at the main depot at a fixed time.
  • Morning and afternoon breaks must occur at a location that provides restroom facilities, water, etc.  There may be a group of locations from which to choose.

Currently, we have to add the lunch break not by using Breaks, but by creating another stop on our Orders list at lunch time at the depot.

Ideally, the VRP model would automatically select the closest location from a "Break facility" list and include that location in the route.

The VRP might allow the following options for specifying a break location:

  • Along Route
    • This is currently the only option.
    • This could be the default.
  • Fixed Location
    • Specify a specific location
  • Nearest Location
    • Choose the nearest location from a "Break Facility" list or perhaps the Depots list.

The Fixed Location and Nearest Location ideas for breaks are very interesting. We will add these to the list of possible enhancements for our future improvements to VRP.

Yes please. For our fleet analysis it's unrealistic to just take a break randomly along the route. Designated break locations with restrooms, etc would be really helpful.
