when i try to use 10.1 desktop to publish a feature service, the Publish Services connection type pulldown does not show the ArcGIS Online 'My Hosted Maps' option. It only shows the option for ArcGIS Server.
I tried this with two different accounts - one an admin, the other a publisher.
Just to clarify, do you see "My Hosted Services" in ArcCatalog with anything in the drop-down? If so, are you not seeing your maps that you have on AGO? I had a problem when I tried to create a feature service and ArcMap 10.1 could not find my AGO Server Connection. This was because I enabled the SSL connection. This could be your problem. To fix this issue, go to the "Sign-in" screen in ArcMap under the "File" drop-down. You will be prompted to sign into ArcGIS Online. Before you sign-in click the "Manage Portal Connections" at the bottom right of the log-in screen. Add the arcgis.com url but add a 's' after the http. It should look like https://www.arcgis.com/ .
yes, you are correct. it is an SSL thing. this has been resolved, following the instructions you provided. my confusion was exacerbated by my participation in another org. This was resolved by use of the Forget Me link in the AGOL sign in panel in ArcMap.
