Can you edit a version of your data in ArcGIS Online?

I have created a feature service and loaded it into ArcGIS Online.

I connected to a child version when setting up the map service (feature enabled).

Edits in ArcGIS Online get applied to both the DEFAULT version and the version I made as a child of DEFAULT.

Is it possible to restrict edits to a version in ArcGIS Online, then post and reconcile to DEFAULT later?
