I'm attempting to use a custom web style for point symbology on a web map used in field maps.

I have two workflows that both work independently, but I cannot get them to both work at once.

1. In the (new) Map Viewer, I can access symbology from my custom web style as described at https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-online/mapping/use-published-2d-symbols-in-arcgis-o....

Sidenote: I found the question at https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-online-questions/custom-web-style-in-map-viewer/td-p/1056368/pa... to be very useful in that process.

2. In Map Viewer Classic, I regularly configure my templates for data collection in Field Maps as described at https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/manage-data/manage-feature-templates.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_AF343...

My problem: When I save my templates, and web map in Classic, all of my custom symbology is deleted.

This seems to be a known shortcoming of Map Viewer Classic which leaves me wanting a way to edit templates outside of there.

I can "get around" this by making the templates first and then rebuilding all of my impacted symbology, but I make template edits often enough that I'd love an easier way.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,

Solved this myself! When editing templates, you can save changes to the templates at the bottom of that left pane and then exit Map Viewer Classic without saving the map

Works great, no wasted time.
