I'm am trying to test the use for the StreetMap extension for an upcoming project. I am trying to make a simple route between to stops. When i click find route i get an error window saying that an internal error occurred in the web service. Im using the North American Route Finder Tele Atlas. Is the serivce currently down? Has anyone come across this same problem?

Thanks,
Tyler

Hi Tylor,

Could you please elaborate more on what exactly are you doing (what button do you click and what settings do you have set up) as well as what exactly you are  trying to achieve?

1) If you refer to Esri StreetMap (http://www.esri.com/data/streetmap/index.html), it is not an "extension" yet it is basically a street dataset which can be used for various things like routing, geocoding, and some others.

2) If you refer to the Find Route button on the Tools toolbar in ArcMap, it is not referred to the "StreetMap". Please refer to the help pages: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Understanding_how_to_find_a_route/007z... to learn more about it.

If you refer to the 1), then you can try adding some other ArcGIS routing services from the ArcGIS Online. For instance, http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Network/USA/NAServer. Please refer to the help page if you need more information on how to do this: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Exercise_2_Finding_a_route_with_an_Arc....

And yes indeed some of the ArcGIS Online services can be down temporarily when the machines are being restarted or when the services are being recycled which can be performed daily, for example.

Alexey,

Thanks for your reply. To clarify, I enabled the StreetMap toolbar and I'm clicking the "Find Route (using  online route services)" button. Under the stops tab I select. North American Route Finder Tele Atlas as my service. I left all the options in there default setting and I input 2 stop addresses. Then I hit find route and it comes up with the error described above.

What I really trying to use it this service:http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=4078fece745140d7af17bf74b5f300fd

I have set the connection and can add this map service to my arcmap table of contents but it has no geometry and I can see no way to input stop information and the like to create a route.

I'm using ArcMap 9.3.1

Thanks

Here I have been referring to the 2) case actually, much apologies.

I have got what you meant, Tyler, thank you. You can get this message if there isn't a valid route between the stops you have entered (refer to http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/25276). Shall we test first on some stops located in the big city center close to each other just to make sure the service is reachable (just in case you haven' done it yet)? What about any other Esri routing service available in the Find Route? For me the North American Routing Service (ArcGIS Online) worked right now.

I have googled a bit both on forums.esri.com and forums.arcgis.com and it seems as there are a lot of posts but most of them refer to the ArcWeb Services which are deprecated for a long time. So I would encourage you to contact the Esri Technical Support if the service will not be reachable.

Good luck!

Alexey,

As you suggested I tried routing between two points in San Francisco and still go the same error. Starting to think there's a connection issue. I also don't have any other routing services available in the drop down besides the European tele atlas service. Is the North American Routing Service (ArcGIS Online) you tried the same as what I provided a link to in previous reply? At this point I'm going to put a ticket in with ESRI for further support on this issue. Thanks for all your help.

Tyler,

Note that I use ArcGIS 10. In ArcMap, when you click the Find Route button you get the Find Route dialog box. Go to the Options tab and then click Browse for the Routing Service to choose what service you want to use. As you can read in the instructions provided here, http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=4078fece745140d7af17bf74b5f300fd, in the Choose Routing Service window, click the Servers button on the left panel. Then choose http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services, and then select the NetworkAnalysis folder and add the ESRI_Route_NA service (since you want to use North American one).

This service is actually based on the Navteq data, as you can read here: http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/NetworkAnalysis/ESRI_Route_NA/NAServer. Just so you know.

You can try to connect to other routing services Esri has: for instance, http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/services/. Then choose Network and then USA service. This will make us sure you indeed have the connection issues and cannot reach any ArcGIS Online routing service.

Good luck with the Tech Support, hope the problem will be solved soon.

I been struggling with this the last few days uin ArcGIS Server/Desktop 10.0 service pack 4.
Coiuld be that the find route is only a function for arcgisonline and uses it's tokens.

Have you tried putting the functionality into a GP Tool?
