Will ArcGIS Online World Imagery be updated to NAIP 2010?

Questions for ESRI:

We have observed that for most of the US, in your new World Imagery layer, the high resolution imagery is the NAIP photography.  As you may know, the 2010 NAIP photography is currently in progress for many states and will be available in the next few months.

What are your plans/schedule for periodic update of your World Imagery layer?

Do you plan to update your World Imagery layer with the NAIP 2010 photography when it becomes available?

The World Imagery map is typically updated twice per year with a large volume of updated imagery.  As you mention, the imagery map does include a large amount of NAIP imagery.  With each update, we try to include the latest available NAIP imagery that has been processed and blended into the nationwide mosaic.

The next imagery update has been completed and being replicated for deployment to ArcGIS Online in late Q2.  It includes a number of updated areas of NAIP 2009 imagery.  In the following update scheduled for late this year, there will be any remaining NAIP 2009 imagery plus initial sets of NAIP 2010 imagery, along with other imagery from commercial sources and local providers.

The 2010 NAIP started becoming available in July 2010 for Oklahoma.  However, I'm not seeing any of that on the ArcGIS Online World Imagery service.

Does ESRI have a time frame for when this will be updated with the 2010 NAIP?

Thanks!

I just spoke with someone who helps build these basemaps and they said unfortunately it won't be in our next update but it will be there by the end of the year.

Thanks,

Mike

The 2010 NAIP is still not in the ESRI World Imagery layer.  Does ESRI still plan to do this update by the end of 2011?

Looks like this is still not being updated to even 2010 NAIP imagery and the 2011 imagery is already out.  I wish Esri would be more transparent about when they plan to update this to the latest NAIP imagery if they even plan to keep this up to date.

The last update to the World Imagery map was published in October 2011.  Esri has normally been doing semi-annual updates to the World Imagery map.

Beginning this year, however, Esri will be doing more frequent updates of the World Imagery map, similar or our World Topographic Map.  There is an update to the World Imagery map planned in the next couple weeks that will include a very large set of NAIP 2010 imagery, along with a few other updates.  We'll post the details in the World Imagery description and ArcGIS Online Blog, including a map of the updated areas, right after this update is released.

Going forward, we'll be making more frequent updates to the World Imagery map (often monthly) as we add more international imagery and update our U.S. imagery.  As always, keep an eye on the ArcGIS Online Blog for the latest updates ....

Thanks Deane!  That is great to hear you are planning to make more frequent updates and often monthly updates to the World Imagery map.  Also great to hear this will be blogged about.  I have seen previous blogs on this but I don't remember it saying much about US updates.  Below is a link to a pdf that shows the states that were skipped for the 2010 NAIP imagery now have the 2011 imagery available.  So hopefully those states get added along with the 2010 states.

Lastly, I noticed that Esri tracks the date, source, resolution, etc in the metadata of the imagery posted to the World Imagery service and it seems only natural to add some kind of time slider feature so users could slide/go back to older sources of imagery.  In the US, this could be earlier years of NAIP imagery.  I searched on the Ideas site and someone has already suggested this as a feature to add.  The link is below.  Please promote this for those if you wanting to see this excellent feature idea added.
