When classifying a layer on a numeric field, the default number of significant digits for the class range label is 10. For the vast majority of data, this is way too much, and makes reading the legend difficult. You can change the label properties on a layer by layer basis, but this is clumsy. The default number of significant digits should be decreased to 6 at the most.
