Create Fishnet Extent Limited to Polygons in Feature Class

I use the Create Fishnet tool (specifically the Create Label Points function) to create a plot grid of regular spacing for forest sampling. Currently, there is no option in the tool to limit the Create Fishnet template extent to an intersect with polygons in a feature class. Adding this function would increase user efficiency, as the current protocol is 1. Create Fishnet over the extent of the feature class. 2. Select label points by location, intersecting (-5m for GPS error) with the feature class, 3. Switch the selection, 4. Delete out the unwanted label points. This protocol works fine with small Fishnets, but when the number of unwanted label points approaches 4,000,000, the creation, selection, and deletion of unwanted label points, plus the saving of this new label point feature really bogs the process down. It's a lot of time to spend on superfluous points.

I was just wondering if you tried Feature Binning capability in Pro. Which is basically generating fishnet dynamically without running a gp tool to pre-generate those polygons. This doesn't allow you to use any spatial filter, but you can use attribute filter or time/range filters.

It is dynamic. Plus you can enable it at the database level when needed or do it entire on the client side.

The XTools Pro Create Fishnet tool allows you to create polygons covered your constrained features (points, lines, or polygons). After that, you can use the XTools Pro Shapes to Centroids tool to get centroids of them.
