There should be an option for setting maximal waiting time for broken links

Right now, I am sitting in front of ArcGIS Pro that is starting up and displays: "Loading Map...". It has been loading the map for 40 minutes. And is still loading. See my following question to the ArcGIS Pro Forum:
https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-questions/is-there-a-way-for-setting-maximal-waiting-time/m...

There doesn't seem to be an option for setting the maximal waiting time for broken links. It's very annoying. I cannot wait more than 40 minutes until a map with a broken ArcMap Server link opens.

It would be very helpful if the project opened within this maximal waiting time and the broken link would be displayed. So I could identify which layer causes the problem.

We often run into this problem.

This also applies for really slow services. We noticed ArcGIS Pro will load all services in a map, regardless if they are set to visible in the ToC or not. In one project with 60 slow services (only one visible on startup) it takes ages to load the project.
There should be a default timeout after a few seconds and a info message afterwards. Services and data sources not set to visible should only be loaded after the project is opened.

Issues with broken links and missing timeout options are not unknown: Local Server Taken Offline - Issue with Pro Projec... - Esri Community

We are dealing with this after a drive migration, and it is excruciating. I thought at first that something was haywire in our new network storage solution (indexing? caching? syncing? security scanning?), but now after seeing this post, I'm wondering if something changed in a recent Pro update. We are running 3.2.2. We're also not hearing about any slowness opening MXDs or any other drive content; the problem seems exclusive to Pro.

In our past experience (this is the second drive migration we've dealt with in the last couple of years), Pro projects with broken links opened in a normal amount of time, just with lots of red exclamation points indicating broken links. Now, projects with broken links are extremely slow to load, and it seems that with each additional broken link in a project, the time to open the project is extended. Yesterday a project with several folder connections and twelve GDBs took almost two hours to open. And each time I clicked on a GDB to repair its path, it churned for ages. I am still working on repairing that project. And we have hundreds of projects.

@KoryKramer are you guys aware of this issue? I see another report of it here: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-questions/local-server-taken-offline-issue-with-pro-project...

I have a call with Esri support later today, and I'll update if I learn of a solution.

Thanks!

Since I said I'd post an update, we eventually figured out our issue. It's not pretty. I documented it here.
