Overwrite service (originally published in ArcMap) in Pro

I have a service published to a standalone server that was originally published in ArcMap. As we migrate to Pro, I wanted to replicate the layer in an .aprx and overwrite the existing service so I wouldn't have to create a whole new service and repoint everything that references it to this. I've successfully published and overwritten other layers that were originally written from ArcGIS Pro, but when I try to do the same with this layer, the analyzer gives me no errors, and then when I try to publish I get an Error with no other information. In trying to diagnose this error, I just would like to know if it's even theoretically possible to overwrite an ArcMap service with a Pro service.
