Water flow arrows throughout catchment

Hi,

I would like to create water flow arrows on the surface of catchment. Currently, the existing ArcHydro tool is able to create stream flow arrows, where the arrows were displayed along the river. Is (are) there any other extension(s) that can create arrows throughout the catchment so that we can view the flow of water runoff on that catchment?

Many thanks.

The easiest way to do this would be to create an aspect raster and a point grid. Extract the aspect values to the points, and then (using the symbology properties) point the arrow in the direction of the aspect.

Run Raster To Point (warning, this can be a lot of points so best to try a small extent [snap raster set to your fdr of course]) from your flow direction raster. Then create a marker style with arrows pointing in the proper direction for each code 0 (use a point for that), 1,2,4,8 .. 128.

There is a way to symbolize fields with multidimensional datasets, if someone has worked out how to apply that symbology to a flow direction raster, I would LOVE to see the instructions here. Steve Lynch can you help, or can you encourage one of your colleagues to post some guidance here (or better yet, a KB article!!).

We old-timers really miss ArcInfo Workstation's GRIDDIRECTION command!

Have a look at Vector Field Rendering and you may want to Reclass the flow direction raster so that the 1,2,4,8 etc are directions...

Also have a look at Displaying Speed and Direction Symbology from U and V vectors
