ANNOUNCEMENT: Update on recent issue - Esri Community

======================

Hello storytellers,

Over the past few days, we've seen an increase in reports of authors not being able to edit their stories. While we haven't yet been able to reproduce this issue in our testing, our analytics confirm this issue has been occurring more often since the middle of last week. Our team is focused on resolving this issue as quickly as possible.

The reports indicate the issue tends to occur after the story builder is left open in a browser for a period of time. When the author comes back to edit or publish they are no longer able to do so. Until we find a solution, we wanted to proactively share this information with the community and provide advice on how to most effectively avoid the issue and how to resolve it if you are affected.

For now, we recommend closing the browser tab when you are done editing a story. From what we know at this point, this issue should not occur as long as you do not leave the story builder open unattended.

If you encounter this problem, you should see a page that lets you download a story recovery file that can be used to fix the story. We just updated the instructions for using the recovery file to make the process much easier. We have been able to successfully recover all stories where this has occurred, but note the most recent edit made to the story may not be recoverable.

In addition to our efforts to find and eliminate the root cause of the issue we are also working on providing a self-help way to recover the story right within the story builder. We expect this to be available by Feb 22.

Please let us know if you have any questions in the comments below. If you have experienced this issue, it would be helpful if you could provide details of the steps/conditions that were at play just before you noticed the issue.
