Relevant with output from Hidden or Calculate field type not working

I am trying to make a field relevant based on a previous calculation which I prefer to not be visible on the form so I have tried it as both a Hidden string field and a Calculate field, the relevant in the next question doesn't respect the value of the hidden/calculate field type, however if I change it to a text field type it works fine. Is this a know issue, is there a work around?

Hi Brent,

I'm not able to replicate the behavior - see the sample file attached.  If the two fields sum to more than 10, then the note shows (based on the calculate field rather than the formula directly).  Am I misunderstanding the problem?
