I am trying to add a Transparency Slider to a layer in my layer list but I cannot find any information on how to do this in the concepts. Is this something that is easy to do?

Thanks

All,

Have you seen the transparency slider on my site? You have to click the transparency icon on the map service in the TOC and then the slider replaces the layers name and has a close button to restore the name.

Caution Rick,
use it only for test, it is not well coded.

Thanks for the warning Erwan.  I was interested to see how your widget interacted with the existing TOC.

Yes Robert, it works well and is a nice addition!  Have you considered adding "Zoom to Layer" functionality to the TOC?

Rick,

Yep I do that through a right click context menu. I would wait and see what the Viewer Team pulls together for the FlexViewer 2.2. Bjorn has ask some questions about what people are looking for...

Ryan,

Finally found time to put this out there...

I'd just like to add my two cents.  Having a transparency slider for each layer would be very useful.  One slider for all operational layers is a lot less useful.  The ability to turn off the slider for some layers would be nice, but not critical.

Thanks for this great widget! This was just what I have been looking for. The slider option to gadually shift between pre-event and pos-event image for disaster analysis is very useful for disaster analysis. It would be useful if the slider could be set passive (hiding) for separate layers.

Looking foreward to more cool widgets 🙂

Ivan,

I am a little unclear on this

What exactly do you mean?

It's not easy ... as you probably figured out based on the lack of responses 🙂

It is however something we are thinking about adding to a future release of the Flex Viewer. So I just wanted to throw out some related questions:

Would it be best (or at least good enough) if users could  set the transparency on all operational layers (as opposed to them only being able to change the transparency on some of the operational layers)?

Should this functionality (layer transparency for end-users) be the default?

Should it always be there, or is something you would want to be able to turn off (not allowing your end users to change the transparency)?

Hi Bjorn,

Why not add for nearest release the same funcionality provided in ArcMap by the Swipe layer button in Effects extension? (for me it's more useful when comparing two aerial photos) 🙂

Regards,
   Pedro.
