It seems silly to me that after you've gone through the effort of customizing your app on Web AppBuilder Developer Edition, you're not able to upload/deploy it back up to ArcGIS Online. It seems like a rather simple functionality to add so at least you could share an app within your organisation without the need to deploy it on a server.
