Hello ESRI and ArcGIS Community!

I have a question in this regard, I hope I ask this question in the right place. I am the president of the Geographic Information System Group Association in Timor-Leste. This association is independent and focuses on GIS development in Timor-Leste, operating as a private-sector entity.

I would like to provide an overview of the development of ArcGIS in Timor-Leste:

Our nation, Timor-Leste, does not yet have an institution dedicated to developing a GIS platform. However, there is one government institution, the Institute of Geosciences of Timor-Leste, that uses ArcGIS in its various mapping activities. Additionally, the National Petroleum and Minerals Authority of Timor-Leste also utilizes ArcGIS in its activities. These institutions, however, are primarily government entities.

As a passionate individual interested in the development of ArcGIS and GIS platforms in Timor-Leste, we took the initiative to establish the Geographic Information System Group Association in 2021. Our association operates as both a private sector and non-governmental institution, focusing on the primary goal of GIS development in Timor-Leste.

We have a significant issue in Timor-Leste where many individuals, including academics, researchers, NGOs, and some government institutions as mentioned earlier, are still using ArcGIS, particularly ArcMap. Since the beginning of my career in ArcGIS in 2019, up to the present, we and our colleagues in the nation continue to rely on ArcMap.

Observing the transition period to ArcGIS Pro approaching, I would like to confirm with the community on the ongoing development and introduction of ArcGIS Pro in Timor-Leste. Our association is actively seeking ways to connect with ESRI to ensure that the transition from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro does not negatively impact our nation, where many depend on ArcMap.

We have applied to ESRI Non-Governmental, but it is unclear whether there is a discussion or plan regarding the transition to ArcGIS Pro in Timor-Leste. We are in need of specialists from ESRI or the ESRI community, preferably those close to Timor-Leste, to engage in a thorough discussion on this matter.

If there are any channels or recommendations within the community or elsewhere, please contact me via email: ponsyanodejesus@gmail.com

Thank you.
