Service Metadata not rendering

I have a Feature service that I can open and view in ArcMap and Pro

BUT

 When I try to open the layer meta in ArcMap it either crashes or renders empty.

I've tried this with a number of other feature services I can find in my Portal and I get the same result.

Is this a known issue that I just need to establish a work around for until all my users are on Pro?
