I have a customer who wants an application that is not dependent on ArcGIS software.  They want all the functionality of ArcGIS, but they don't want to have to worry about the maintenance required to maintain applications between versions of ArcGIS desktop software, such as updating code to run on ArcGIS 10.  So if I write an application in Visual Studio for Engine, based on ArcGIS 10 desktop, my customer can use that application for as long as they want to, and when ArcGIS 10.1 comes out, they can install 10.1, and continue using the Engine application I developed in 10 without any interruption, and the two can run side by side on the same machine without causing problems, right?  I realize they won't have any of the added functionality of 10.1, but they can continue using the Engine application as it was in 10. Am I correct on that?  Or will my Engine application get hosed when they install a later version of ArcGIS software?
