Is there any way I can edit more than one feature in the same layer at the same time? Also, is there any way I can edit more than one layer at the same time?

I'm using "ArcPad 10 for Windows" on a laptop in the field so I have the room on my screen to open more than one feature but I can't select more than one layer in the Table of Contents to be edited.

Thanks

Could you give some more information about your workflows? What are you specifically are you trying to acheive?

Both of these things are possible in ArcPad, both editing multiple features and editing multiple layers.

Eg 1. If you are looking at making bulk updates to your data, you can use scripting to insert attribute data across multiple features. This can be acheived using the RecordSet Object with both Shapefiles and AXF data or SQL Update Commands in the AXF only.

Eg 2. You can also capture features in multiple layers. If you select both a line and point feature to be editable in the Edit Menu (Big Pencil). When using GPS, use Capture GPS Vertices Tool to collect a line feature from streaming GPS positions and then use the Capture GPS Point Tool to collect point features along the way. Then, simply use the Proceed to Attribute Capture Tool (Big Green Arrow) when you are ready to complete the line feature.

You can also collect a feature/vertex across multiple layers using custom scripting!

There are many options available - it all depends on your project needs!!

I am working on an asset management project where we have features already loaded on ArcPad with blank attribute information and then the field crew will select the feature to be edited and add the attribute information. The attribute information includes recording measurements and times.

Example: We have a Valve, Air Vent, and Leak Detector in one area. The Air Vent attributes include venting time in min:sec. Venting could take up to 10-15 minutes. In the meantime we would like to be editing another feature (e.g. Leak Detector) and fill out its attributes while waiting for the Air Vent to finish venting.

As mentioned previously, this is not on a GPS unit. This will be done on ArcPad 10 for Windows directly on the laptop.

Thanks for your help. I figured there would be scripting invloved.

Easy,  Edit your air vent, start the venting, OK it then go about your other editing, when venting complete go back and edit the vent feature again and fill out the time or whatever you need.
